SpotXchange hosts an engineering open house at its Denver offices.

Online video ad network SpotXchange will give at least 50 engineers the opportunity to work on complicated problems similar to “the Googles and the Facebooks of the world” while still enjoying Colorado’s laidback lifestyle, SpotXchange COO/CFO Steve Swoboda said.

“We are working on problems that are every bit as sophisticated and challenging as those really big titans of the technology and ad tech sector, but we’re doing it here in Colorado,” Swoboda said.

The reason for this big push to find engineers is simple: SpotXchange wants to keep the title of the leading platform in digital video advertising. But Swoboda said some competitors will bring public money into the game over the next year, in addition to funding from private equity firms and venture capital: “So we want to continue innovating and we have a lot of good stuff on our growth map to keep us in our leadership position.”

One thing on SpotXchange’s growth map is intensified efforts in the mobile and connected devices realm, an endeavor which digital media whiz Allen Klosowski was just brought on to lead. Just in this sphere alone, SpotXchange is already in need of engineers. Even though good engineers are hard to find in any market, Swoboda said the company “would hire more than 50 if we find ones that are a fit for us.”

What makes for a good fit? Swoboda said someone who will get along with SpotXchange’s current team of 30 engineers known to “work super hard together, but then, after hours, pop a keg on Friday (or sometimes Wednesday).”

In addition to coworker bonding, engineers will be able to maintain Colorado’s famous work-life balance with SpotXchange’s unlimited vacation time policy. (Yes, you that heard right!) The unlimited vacation time leaves employees plenty of time to enjoy the company’s beautiful setting of Colorado.

“We are really proud of the fact that we are a Colorado company,” Swoboda said. “We want to source as many local engineers as we can because we feel like this is one of the best places to work.”
