Friday Recap:
They are working on childhood obesity prevention, empowering parents to plan healthy meals on a budget. This will integrate multiple items, including location, budget and desired dietary items. They are looking to pair with local grocery stores in gaining data as well as customer feedback on what is useful or not. Their biggest challenge? Driving customers to them and querying a database of a recipes to integrate into their application.

What have they done in the past 24 hours?
  • Created a prototype demo and brought it to the street
  • Solicited feedback from users by submitted a survey to several groups, including Boulder Rockin’ Moms.
  • Worked with local grocers to being a partnership allowing them to work together with their (the grocers) customers.

A large part of what this team worked on was questions to parents about shopping, cooking and nutritional habits. They were looking to see if their results were what they had thought they would be; some were spot on, others were helpful to tell them why they wouldn’t use the app. This feedback gave them a much better sense of how people are shopping currently and how they would like to do this in the future.

Another aspect the team worked on was spending time analyzing potential revenue streams, strategic partnerships with corporations and community based organizations. They focused on groups that appeared to already have Child Obesity agendas and to tail off that.

Their app will be free to benefit from the social level, this will allow access to all demographics and help the Child Obesity problem in general. They are working on some premium features as well that would function on a subscription basis, primarily advertising components because at this point, customers are ready to shop.

At the end of the day, they have a data and analytics element, with user base. Purchase history, developing user understanding for how, where and when they shop. This will in turn help make the product even better and customizable.
