In early April, Denver-based RainCommander launched its flagship product, the RainCommander RC1200.

The RainCommander RC1200 is a WiFi-enabled sprinkler controller that allows homeowners to run their systems from anywhere using an app on their smartphone, tablet or any other connected device.

“Today people can control lights, security cameras and even door locks from their smartphone, but many are unable to fully control their sprinkler system remotely,” said Deb Shupe, co-founder of RainCommander. “RainCommander is one of the first of its kind on the market to provide easy 12-zone sprinkler control.”

With landscape irrigation making up 30-60 percent of residential water usage, RainCommander can help conserve water and reduce water bills. The system enables the homeowner to bypass watering cycles if not needed because of a rainstorm, BBQ or other activity. Based on the average water usage rates for landscape irrigation, bypassing two water cycles could save the average homeowner up to 34,000 gallons of water per year.
