My Story : Folsom Creative

A little over a month ago, I got to do an great interview with Team Treehouse (an online elearning platform, aimed towards design and edvelopment). While doing the interview I got to reflect on where I started and how I got to where I am today.

About 10 years ago (in 2004) I had just graduated High School, I was of to a school in Wyoming called WyoTech to study the automotive repair industry and specifically the industry surrounding auto racing. I had an aspiration to create my own performance shop and potential rally team. This lead me to my first startup (Rentech Motorsports). The company failed but I did not. I learned alot, in fact I learned things in other areas that would later help me in the future. I learned how to develop websites out of the need to create on for my business. As a tinkerer, web development sparked my interest and while my business didn't work out, I still walked away with a great skill.

Five years and a couple small jobs later, I found myself working in what could be the best/worst job. I did customer support fro Voodoo Gaming Computers. The company was a startup who was bought by HP. All those HP Envy laptops are thanks to us. Unfortunatley my role was to support the grandfatherd products to their end of life. I spent 3 years making the same wage as day one, and no job security but I did get to play video games at work and about 80% of my day was spend doing so. But that gets boring and without job security, I started doing freelance web development. This is also about the time I picked up Team Treehouse and started at The University of Phoenix.

Both education paths helped. A degree helps you get noticed and validates your knowledge and services like Team Treehouse can help teach up to date tangible web skills.

Now here we go....

In October 2013, I joined forces with a great web designer and an awesome business manager. Together wevalidated our business, increasing our business portfolio by 200% each month. This is the pont where I clarify that we are now talking about Folsom Creative.

I created the company for a good reason. There is simply not enough GOOD web design/development companies out there and you never know what you are going to get with a freelance developer/designer. With a team like ours, we are able to build a reputation, client list, and portfolio that truly shows our customers the valuse of our services.

While it will be no easy road ahead, we do have grand plans/goals. This month, we will hire our first new employee fromm outside the group. By the end of March we will be moving into a new office. And by the end of July, we plan to hire on a second employee outside our group.

While we do not have plans to be a huge firm, we do want to be recognizable in our region. With the variety of startups and other companies in Colorado, we certainly have a lot to offer to a lot fo clients.

Join us on our Journey as our story continues.
