Meetup on Legal & Regulatory Issues with Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies for Startups

by
April 4, 2014

The interest surrounding Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies is undeniable, but the legal and regulatory framework around these novel technologies presents a serious obstacle to any startup that would otherwise hope to enter the field.

Tech Startup Veteran Craig McDonald (iTriage, formerly first technical hire for Ubooly) and Kieran McCarthy will present on the legal issues connected to the hot new trends in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies next Thursday, April 10th at Galvanize at 6 pm.

What is bitcoin and how does it work? Is it possible to innovate with cryptocurrencies given the heavy and uncertain regulatory framework associated with them? Is it possible to apply lean startup principles as a money transmitter? Do the legal issues and drawbacks with cryptocurrencies outweigh the potential financial rewards of developing tech in the field?

We'll present a survey of the issues and then open up the floor for discussion on how these problems might unfold going forward. While there may not be an easy way around regulation with these technologies, we hope to at least present a basic background for those who may wish to explore further.

To RSVP, please visit the meetup site and confirm your interest.
