Piq's founder Aayush Iyer gave us the inside scoop on what he's up to:
What is piq? What does it do?
piq is a jukebox for social spaces -- it connects music services to people so they can choose and vote on what music plays next around them.
When was your company founded?
We officially incorporated in January 2013, but have been working on this a little more than six months.
Where did the idea come from? What were you trying to accomplish/what problem are you trying to solve?
In communal spaces around you, very often, the music sucks. We want the people participating in these spaces to democratically {via social capital} control the music and tone of the ambience. It starts by picking a song.
Any major challenges or successes so far that you'd like to share?
We're bootstrapping a hardware startup, which is incredibly difficult and yet rewarding. We have one dedicated sale, 400 interested users in our group, and hope to have new customers soon. We're targeting a Kickstarter at the end of this month.
How can the startup community help? What are you looking for right now?
We're looking for beta customers who'd like to help a young startup in Boulder, and producing our Kickstarter pitch.
We hope the startup community likes piq! Their shares, pledges and purchases will help us make the product a reality.
