Legal Issues Affecting Startups: Which labor and employment laws apply to my company?

Here is a quick summary of the applicability of some of the major labor and employment laws to private employers:

  • Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (Title VII):  Employers with 15 or more employees
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA):  Employers with 15 or more employees
  • Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA):  Employers with 20 or more employees
  • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA):  Employers with 50 or more employees
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA):  All employers
  • Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA):  All employers
  • Colorado Wage Act:  All employers
