“Employment at-will” is a legal doctrine providing that either party to an employment relationship may terminate the relationship at any time for any reason (or no reason). Over the years, a number of exceptions to the doctrine have developed. Today, most of those exceptions fall into three categories: (1) termination in breach of a contract (either express or implied); (2) termination in violation of an anti-discrimination or other statute; and (3) termination in violation of public policy.
