Kaiser Permanente officially opened its 120,000-square-foot national information technology center in Greenwood Village Thursday, creating another major employment center for the growing crop of IT workers that local economic-development leaders hope will lead to even more such jobs coming to the area.

The nonprofit health plan already has hired 350 workers for the center and plans to hire an additional 350 by 2015.

Phil Fasano, Kaiser’s national executive vice president and chief information officer, added that he believes employment at the five story building at 6560 Greenwood Plaza Blvd. could grow to 900 people if needed.

Kaiser, a pioneer in employing health information technology to connect doctors to patients, will use the new center for Internet and mobile-connection development and to maintain and improve its core IT systems, Fasano told a small crowd gathered in a fourth-floor conference room.
