That’s just about the schmaltziest blog title I could possibly come up with to try and define an evening that is anything but cheesy, unless you’re counting the cheese on Fat Sully’s pizza, who is our food sponsor for the evening (blatant plug, I know).
If you’ve never been to an Ignite, I highly suggest you give it a try if you answer yes to one of the following questions:
1. Do you like to learn about new topics?
2. Do you like to listen to new perspectives on various ideas?
3. Can you stand being in a room with people equally as awesome as you are?
4. Do you enjoy laughing so hard that you pee a little, but not so much that it’s an obvious embarrassment to those around you?
5. Are you amenable to foul/suggestive language being used to describe anything from wind power to motivational speaking?
6. Do you enjoy an adult beverage with your night of learning?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should buy a ticket to Ignite Denver 13 to give it a shot. If you answered yes to more than one of these questions, definitely buy a ticket, because February 27th is going to be a fun night for you, my friend.
By now, you probably want me to stop trying so hard to be so damn clever and you’d like to know exactly what Ignite Denver is all about.
In a nutshell, the night will have 14 presentations. Each presentation is 5 minutes, with 20 slides that advance every 15 seconds. The presenters must work to clearly express their point, being entertaining and engaging all within the time limit.
I encourage everyone to try it just once. A lot of the time, once is all it takes to become a big fan of these locally organized and locally supported events. I’ve been hooked since the first Ignite Denver I went to several years ago and since then I’ve presented three times and now I volunteer to help make sure the night runs smoothly. It’s a great night with genuine, funny, geeky people just like you!
