The first Denver Startup Week couldn’t have come at a better time for Globa.li. As the Globa.li’s co-founder, I’m working with an amazing team to create a free, easy-to-use inventory management software for small hotels.
Thinking WAY back to Monday, October 22nd, the first day of Denver Startup Week, I was looking for;
1. A legal team that understands the idiosyncrasies of early-stage startups.
2. A financial consultant who could help with some modeling and projections as we head into our first round of funding.
3. The opportunity to practice my pitch.
Over the next five days, I found all three.
It became apparent that at the wide variety of events held across downtown Denver throughout the week, the audience was made up of startups like Globa.li, looking to learn and grow, and other members of the startup community looking to network and add value to the conversations.
At the end of nearly every session I attended, I was approached by a variety of people. Sometimes these people introduced themselves and these contacts led to follow up coffee meetings, and yes, a working relationship with a legal and financial consultant. Sometimes these people didn’t introduce themselves, but offered me unsolicited, thoughtful and valuable feedback and advice.
I’m proud to report that we’ve maintained momentum and will be participating in an accelerator program in early 2013 (can’t say publically which one yet!). Thank you to the team that put on the first Denver Startup Week and I look forward to supporting our vibrant startup community and events in the New Year!
