Some of you might already know about Wimbo Music, a new music startup here in Denver. For those of you that don’t, though, I invite you to join me in welcoming them to our wonderful community of entrepreneurship and awesomeness!

Wimbo Music just launched a great new iOS app for musicians. Wimbo is a simple music mixer that players can use to isolate and control each of the instruments and vocals in a song, so they can play along to only the backing tracks they want to hear. It’s the perfect practice or performance tool for anyone who’s trying to nail down a tough sequence or mix in their own style to create a totally new version of the song.

Owing its namesake to the Swahili word for “song,” Wimbo aims to help every musician “Be Part of the Music.” When you play along with the app it sounds like the band is playing right next to you, giving you the sense of being completely immersed in the music.

Like all great startups, Wimbo was inspired by a pain point frequently experienced by its CEO and founder, Denis Ouellette. Denis is a musician who, like most others, doesn’t like to feel like he’s playing alone. Music sounds best when it combines a concert of sounds and that’s pretty hard to pull off by yourself. Playing along with the full track isn’t much fun either, because you’re always playing over the band instead of with the band.

With Wimbo, Denis provides a solution to the problem. Now you can download backing tracks to all of your favorite songs and take the band everywhere you go.

Since 52% of US households have at least one person who plays a musical instrument, and 40% have at least two musicians, I think it’s a safe bet that you or someone you know is going to appreciate the hard work Wimbo Music has put into this app. Download it now to see for yourself how Wimbo changes the way you interact with your favorite songs!
