Venture capital investment in metro Denver firms has improved slightly in the past two years, averaging $125 million a quarter, according to a new report released Wednesday by the Denver Office of Economic Development (OED).
The combined metro Denver and Boulder-Longmont region ranked fifth among selected U.S. areas in venture capital deal volume and investment levels, according to the report.VC activity in the metro area reached a high of $300 million in the first quarter of 2008 before hitting a low of $60 million in the fourth quarter of 2012.
More capital was channeled into early and later business stages with minimal financing at the seed stage, the OED report said. The technology and health care sectors got most of the recent VC investments.
