The Colorado Technology Assocation (CTA) announced yesterday its hiring of Erik Mitisek, a former board member, to the position of CEO. Mitisek is also the Chairman of Built In Denver, and co-founder of Next Great Place, which provides special vacation rates only to its members. He is also credited for his involvement in Startup Colorado and Denver Startup Week.

Mitisek will officially start as CTA’s CEO on April 29, and he told me in an interview how excited he is to take up this new position, having spent the past 14 years of his career building businesses in Denver.

One of his major goals, Mitisek says, is “to get more companies involved in the technology dialogue, both from an industry perspective as well as growing the community.” Coupled with that, he plans to focus on fostering innovation in early-stage and established companies.

While he is overall looking forward to the role of heading CTA, Mitisek sees a need to improve the way stories about Colorado’s technology companies are told and shared. He attributes the culture surrounding those companies, one that perhaps emphasizes hard work over the need to broadcast news about oneself, to why they tend to keep quiet about their successes. But that is something Mitisek seeks to change.

“All my energies are focused on being an advocate for the folks who are building great tech companies...across the state,” Mitisek says.
