4 Austin hangouts where a night out could lead to funding

After months of outreach, you've finally scored a meeting with a top venture capitalist. Thanks to tons of planning and mock pitch sessions with friends, mentors and even your dog, you’re confident you will land the deal. When the meeting ends, you'll begin the first day of the rest of your life as the CEO of a multi-million dollar company.

The day of the meeting you arrive thirty minutes early and are directed to have a seat in a minimalistic, brightly lit conference room. When walking in you lay eyes on not one, but three investors. At that moment anxiety floods your body and you become an unintelligible, babbling fool.

Let’s face it, meeting with VC’s can be extremely nerve racking. And sometimes, after a long week, nothing sounds better than a cold beer and a night on the town with friends. Luckily, investors also enjoy a cold one and a night off like the rest of us. That's why we have listed four of the top Austin hotspots frequented by investors where a night out could lead to funding.

Living Room at W Hotel
200 Lavaca Street

There's probably no one that knows Austin’s startup scene better than Capital Factory’s Executive Director, Joshua Baer. For a productive night of networking on the town, Baer recommends grabbing a drink at the W Hotel. Multiple VC’s reside in the W Hotel Residences, making the Living Room a convenient place to meet and wind down.

If you’re a new entrepreneur in the area and aren’t in need of liquid courage to loosen you up, Baer recommends grabbing a coffee at Lola Savanah Coffee Shop on Sunday mornings or stopping by Capital Factory’s revolving door of investors.

Departure Lounge
311 W 5th Street, Suite 102

One of the more upscale venues on our list, the Departure Lounge is where coffee, wine and travel meet. Austin’s travel enthusiasts can enjoy organic coffee, luscious wines and artisan cheeses while exploring options for their next vacation. Join the sophistication and you may find an investor sitting just a table away.

Hangar Lounge
318 Colorado Street

Airport lounges are known for random encounters and sparking relationships with strangers. The Hangar Lounge harnesses the ambiance of an airport lounge with a beautiful view. Enjoy a drink and live music on the rooftop bar. If you run into a VC, nothing makes a better conversation piece than Austin’s skyline at dusk.
