Sustainability Engineer, Utilities Reliability Engineering Group
As a member of the Engineering Maintenance & Utilities (EMU) Utilities Reliability Engineering Group, the Sustainability Engineer is responsible for reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and energy consumption through the identification, design, and implementation of projects and/or operating strategies within our Manufacturing Division , storage, and laboratory facilities. The Sustainability Engineer works with building maintenance teams as well as utility operations team members to implement effective and innovative energy conservation measures with an emphasis on demand-side management strategies. The Sustainability Engineer also conducts energy assessments, monitors energy performance against energy goals, and reports status to site leadership. Specific duties include:
- Works to implement effective and innovative energy conservation measures (ECMs).
- Provides engineering and technical support for project design and implementation
- Coordinates with operations, maintenance, central utilities, and engineering teams to optimize the operations and energy use of energy systems and equipment.
- Develops and executes an energy/sustainability strategy including procedure development, metrics, and periodic reporting.
- Analyzes systems and equipment to determine optimum operating conditions and diagnose issues impacting energy consumption; develops and recommends strategies to maximize operating efficiency.
- Reviews data from Energy Management and Information Systems (EMIS), such as the building automation system (BAS), and utility billing and meter data to identify opportunities for energy and operational savings.
- Performs technical energy audits and payback calculations.
- Researches, tests, and summarizes benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy project concepts.
- Advises on equipment specifications, conducts bidding process with equipment suppliers for upgrades and energy retrofits, and supports annual energy budget preparation.
- Capital planning - identifies capital projects, creates multi-year capital plan, and serves as project manager or capital team leader for sustainability projects.
- Reviews capital project scope for compliance with company energy standards.
- Creates procedures and reference documents for sustainability best practices.
Education Minimum Requirement:
- Bachelor's Degree in applicable engineering field or equivalent technical major, or equivalent military training with related experience.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Minimum of four (4) years experience with reliability engineering, electrical and/or Building Automation System (BAS) and HVAC systems
- Experience with building systems and equipment, including identifying and implementing energy efficiency measures and optimizing equipment use
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Demonstrated oral/presentation and written communication skills across levels and departments
- Demonstrated technical writing (i.e., technical communications, procedures)
- Demonstrated computer skills (MS Office)
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Working knowledge of cGMP for pharmaceutical and/or vaccine manufacturing
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability professional (CMRP) or Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Certification
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications
- Computerized Management Maintenance Systems, SAP, ProCal, or Hexagon
- Process Information (PI)
- Energy management software
