The Role

Your role in helping us shape the future:
As the Safety & Environmental Specialist at Intelsat, you are a key contributor and will play an important role in all aspects of our Safety & Environmental management systems. Thereby ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, customers, the community, and our organization. This role helps us preventing injuries, damages and environmental incidents. It requires organizational, communication and interpersonal skills at all levels that include staff, property management, vendors, and regulatory authorities.

This is a multi-discipline position with the candidate having proven experience providing continuous improvements in safety & environmental programs within a fast-paced company environment.
The main key responsibilities are:

  • Safety & Environmental Program Development: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and environmental procedures/guidelines tailored to the specific needs of our organization. This in alignment with applicable regulation like OSHA, US, EU or Industry standards such as ISO as example.
  • Safety Training: Develop and/or conduct relevant safety training for employees, contractors and visitors to ensure awareness of the applicable safety procedures and practices.
  • Safety & Environmental Inspections/audits: Develop and maintain dedicated site inspection checklists to identify potential safety and environmental hazards.
  • Safety and Environmental Reporting: Process and analyze occurrence reports in Intelsat Safe! Prepare and submit report of findings and ensure all reports are properly recorded within the company and reported to appropriate regulatory authorities as required.
  • Safety Documentation: Maintaining Intelsat Safe! platform and ensuring that accurate records and documentation related to safety and environmental training, occurrences, inspections, and the safety program effectiveness are properly stored.
  • Safety Communication: Foster a culture of safety by communicating safety related information and best practices to all levels of the organization with the use of our Safety Talks and post them on i360.
  • Emergency Response (EAP's): Assist with preparation and implementation of site emergency preparedness and response plans. Coordinate and schedule emergency drills and tests; and prepare report of findings with recommendations to management for approval.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations and ensure compliance is maintained across all company operations.
  • Prepare briefs, purchase requisitions (PR's), reports and statements of work
  • Manage safety and environmental vendors/suppliers; assess performances and provide recommendations to management.


You should definitely have:

  • 4-year college degree
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • 3 to 5 years proven experience in managing safety programs, compliance, emergency preparedness, response, and training.
  • Working knowledge of safety & environmental regulations and industry standards (DOT, OHSA, ISO)


It would be nice if you had:

  • Familiar with (aviation) safety and environmental management systems
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety management software system(s)
  • Familiar with emergency notification systems (Like Everbridge)
