Software Engineering Manager: Vehicle Software Deployment

Zoox’s Robot Software Infrastructure team is seeking a leader to mature our systems that update software and firmware on vehicles during manufacturing and in the field. The deploy system covers sensors, the compute system, automotive ECUs, network switches, and user interface devices. We’re continually incorporating more devices, covering more use cases, and improving performance and reliability. This role will require developing a deep understanding of our vehicle architecture to understand the dependencies and shared resources that are constraints for the deploy sequence.

In this role, you’ll lead a team that interacts closely with engineers throughout the company, including teams responsible for on-vehicle components, the software build system, operations, manufacturing, and more. The team is unique because of the breadth of the domain it covers: it requires a shallow understanding of a broad problem space, with the ability to dig deep and develop new expertise when required.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a software engineering team
• Strong understanding of computer networking
• Experience refining a testing strategy that includes software-only tests and a range of hardware-in-the-loop tests
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Computer science or computer engineering bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience
• Focus on data-driven decision-making based on metrics
• Proficiency in a language without automatic memory management (e.g., C or C++), and in a scripting language (e.g., Python or Ruby)
• Familiarity with security concepts: PKI, cryptographic building blocks, etc.

Bonus Qualifications

• Software development for embedded systems and experience with software build systems
• Familiarity with manufacturing systems
• Master’s degree or higher with a focus on networking, operating systems, or computer security

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $204,000 to $342,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
