About the Role
Cars Commerce builds solutions for automotive dealerships, manufacturers, and consumers. Our driving force is to deliver one platform to simplify everything about buying and selling cars. Our platform enables dealerships and OEMs with innovative technical solutions and data-driven intelligence to better reach and influence ready-to-buy shoppers, increase inventory turn and gain market share.
To support the growth and tighter integration of our existing brands like Cars.com, Dealer Inspire, and Accu-Trade we are seeking a Leader for our growing Quality engineering initiatives.
Quality Engineering increases the performance of software engineering teams through the use of qualitative & quantitative analytical methods, continuous process improvement, and automation throughout the software development lifecycle. We’re looking for an experienced senior leader for our first Quality Engineering team. This role is pivotal to leading a key part of the broader Platform strategy, providing guidance and best practices to Product and Platform Engineering teams.
Success in this role requires exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills. You should have hands-on leadership experience in the software quality space, and a strong belief in transparency and accountability. You have hands-on experience that has fueled your knowledge and experience on your journey into leadership. You have experience hiring and developing the skills and talents of others. Ownership is a key characteristic you inspire your teams to ingrain in their culture.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience leading implementation and configuration of automation tooling (e.g. CI/CD integration, Cucumber, Postman, SonarQube, Selenium, etc)
- Experience leading test automation projects from assessment and planning to successful delivery
- Extensive experience managing change management practices, policies, and procedures
- Ability to author documentation for all levels of stakeholders
- Experience implementing software delivery process such as Agile
- Hands-on experience with modern programming languages
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related degree, or equivalent practical experience
- 4+ years of progressive people management experience
- Strong track record of delivering results and are able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple competing priorities with various business stakeholders
- Ability and willingness to manage ambiguity i.e., help shape solutions and prioritize deliverables to align with the Company’s vision
Preferred Qualifications
- Extensive experience using modern monitoring tools (Cloudwatch, DataDog, etc) and establishing metrics, monitoring, alarming, and dashboards
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, SRE concepts and best practices
- Experience managing and establishing automated controls for 3rd party audits (SOX, SOC-II, etc)
- Jira automation and Slack integration experience
- Experience implementing and educating stakeholders on test case management systems
- Experience defining manual testing, including creating and executing test plans, establishing standards for teams to follow, and ultimately driving towards efficient automation
Responsibilities
- Responsible to lead and add transparency to our Quality automation efforts
- Lead team to establish quality roadmap that aligns with product and tech teams they are partnered with
- Establish standards that can easily be ported to other teams
- Lead by example to establish a culture of technical expertise and operational accountability
- Lead team of SDETs to establish, monitor, and move KPIs
- Lead team to focus on Incremental delivery and test automation across the highest priority products and features
- Identify and prioritize technical initiatives to align and integrate with business goals
- Add transparency mechanisms for stakeholders into the priorities and activities of our Cloud organization
- Solicit requirements from collaborators and foster excellent communication with stakeholders
- Hire, coach, and manage diverse teams with varying skill sets and experience
- Establish training standards and performance expectations for individual contributors

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share the base salary range for this position which is not inclusive of bonuses, benefits or other forms of compensation that the position may be eligible for. If you are hired at Cars Commerce, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills and/or experience. Salary Range
$149,800—$187,300 USD
