Overall Purpose

This position will be responsible for building and leading the second line operational risk program, strategy, and team. This position provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen the operational risk management framework, which includes risk identification, assessment, management, monitoring and reporting of operational risk, and deliver outcomes that improve Early Warning’s operational resilience. This position will regularly engage with executive leadership, customers, regulators, and the Board.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops the ORM vision, strategy, policies, and risk appetite aligned with the Early Warning’s business objectives.
  • Leads the second line of defense Operational Risk team in the day-to-day execution of the operational risk management framework to include key risk management activities such as periodic and change-driven risk assessments, setting of risk appetite, monitoring, and reporting of key risk and performance indicators, event reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Designs, implements and evolves right-sized and practical operational risk management requirements and programs across the company.
  • Influences and monitors progress of action plans to improve the risk and control environment arising from risk assessments, risk monitoring, internal and external audits, and regulatory exams.
  • Organizes and facilitates engagements for process mapping of key business processes in support of process level risk assessments.
  • Designs and implements cohesive, aggregated, actionable enterprise risk performance metrics and information to be relied on by senior management and the governance committees in decision making and to enable continued maturation in risk management programs.
  • Provides exceptional leadership in managing and developing a highly engaged, high-performance team.
  • Gives quality advice and trains staff to carry out all necessary functions within operational risk management and work closely with all line managers to facilitate the coordination of risk management activities across businesses.
  • Contributes to critical governance structures to include senior management risk committees and sub-committees of the Board.
  • Promotes an appropriate culture of awareness and attention to operational risk throughout the company in line with evolving regulatory requirements.
  • Supports the company commitment to risk management and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education and experience typically obtained through completion of a Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • 15 or more years’ experience in in operational risk management, or compliance functions in the financial services industry.
  • Deep understanding of three lines of defense risk management structure and requirements.
  • Understanding of other operational risk programs including first-line led programs, that have major implications on the enterprise risk profile such as information security, resiliency, privacy, technology, compliance, fraud, business continuity, third party, data, model and others.
  • Strong business acumen, oral and written communication skills; ability to approach and solve problems analytically.
  • Experience being examined by the OCC and CFPB, engaging with and presenting to regulators, as well as on-going relationship management.
  • Talented people leader with proven track record of attracting, retaining, and developing team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to support complex organizational relationships.
  • Ability to interact professionally and confidentially with senior leaders on sensitive matters.

  • Additional related education and/ or work experience preferred.
  • Risk Management certification(s)

Physical Requirements

Early Warning works together in a highly collaborative office environment. Working conditions consist of a normal office environment. Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer and involves sitting for periods of approximately four hours. Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching. Must be able to lift 10 pounds occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment including personal computers. Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.

The pay scale for this position in:

New York, NY in USD per year is: $260,000 - $280,000.
