Illumio is a leading cybersecurity company that specializes in protecting organizations' digital assets through innovative segmentation technology. We are seeking a talented VP, Legal to join our team and lead our legal department. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in corporate law, contract negotiation, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance within the technology sector. You will lead the company’s global legal function and partner closely with executive leadership to support growth while managing legal and regulatory risk. This position will ensure that Illumio always operates within the law, offering counsel on legal issues, and limiting risk exposure.

This role works closely with Sales, Product, Finance, and HR, and requires a pragmatic, business-oriented leader who can operate effectively in a fast-moving, global environment. This is a hands-on role combining strategic judgment with day-to-day execution across a broad range of legal areas.

Provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance to support company growth and operations, build and lead a high-performing legal team aligned with company priorities, and enable efficient, informed decision-making by translating legal risk into clear, actionable advice.

Your Impact:

Commercial & Revenue

  • Support complex enterprise SaaS transactions and help improve deal velocity

  • Develop scalable contracting frameworks that reduce friction

  • Advise on key negotiation issues, including liability, privacy, and regulatory risk

Product, IP & Regulatory

  • Advise on product-related legal issues, including privacy, cybersecurity, and open source

  • Oversee the company’s intellectual property strategy, including management of patent and trademark portfolio

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to proactively identify and mitigate legal risk

  • Support global regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, DORA, data residency)

Global & Corporate

  • Support international operations, including cross-border legal, regulatory, and employment matters

  • Provide legal support for partnerships and other strategic initiatives

Risk & Governance

  • Support the company’s approach to legal risk management, including litigation and regulatory matters

  • Maintain strong governance practices and partner with leadership on risk-informed decision-making

People & Leadership

  • Partner closely with HR on employment, compensation, and employee matters

  • Build, develop, and retain a high-performing legal team

Your Toolkit:
  • Experience as a senior legal leader (e.g., GC, VP Legal, Deputy GC, or similar) in a high-growth technology company

  • Deep experience with enterprise SaaS and commercial agreements

  • Strong cross-functional partner to Sales, Product, Finance, and HR

  • Experience operating in a global environment, including data protection, cybersecurity, and intellectual property management

  • Experience implementing scalable compliance programs that support organizational integrity and growth

  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams

  • Strong business judgment and a pragmatic approach to risk

  • Ability to balance legal rigor with operational speed

  • Clear communicator with strong executive presence and the ability to influence senior stakeholders

  • High integrity and sound judgment in high-stakes situations

  • Brings a collaborative, low-ego approach, along with a sense of humor and a genuine interest in building a high-performing, world-class team
