Who will you be working with? 

You will be working with a multidisciplinary global engineering team composed of software developers, systems engineers, hardware engineers, validation specialists, and product leaders focused on delivering safe, reliable, and high‑performance control systems for the rail industry.
This team operates in a highly collaborative, technical environment, where design reviews, requirement discussions, and cross‑functional problem‑solving sessions are part of the daily workflow.

You will also engage directly with international engineering partners, external suppliers, and program managers to ensure alignment on requirements, test strategies, and verification outcomes. The team combines deep expertise in embedded control systems, functional safety, communication protocols, and system integration, enabling continuous improvement and innovation across Wabtec's locomotive platforms and transportation systems.

How will you make a difference?  

As a member of the Control Systems and Software Test Engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, executing, and maintaining test strategies that ensure the reliability and safety of electronic control systems used in the rail industry. You will validate embedded and control software through manual and automated testing, ensure that system and software requirements are testable, and support the development of test automation tools and frameworks.

You will contribute directly to ensuring that Wabtec delivers high‑quality, compliant, and robust control software solutions that meet customer, regulatory, and operational requirements.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience;
  • Hands‑on experience in software test engineering, including debugging and validating complex systems;
  • Experience testing embedded or control software in safety‑critical or regulated environments
  • Strong understanding of control system architectures and communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, serial interfaces);
  • Familiarity with Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and their interaction with sensors, actuators, and subsystems;
  • Experience analyzing and validating system and software requirements;
  • Proven experience creating test plans, test strategies, and test procedures;
  • Knowledge of diagnostics, events, fault handling, and logging mechanisms;
  • Experience with Windows and Linux environments;
  • Strong attention to detail and a structured, analytical approach to testing;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred / Added Advantage

  • Experience with railway, locomotive, or transportation control systems;
  • Familiarity with database systems supporting complex embedded applications;
  • Knowledge of SDLC and V‑Model development;
  • Experience using ALM tools for requirements, testing, and defect management;
  • Experience with automated test development using Python, C/C++, CAPL, or similar languages;
  • Exposure to HIL, SIL, or simulation‑based testing environments.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Participate in requirements, design, and functional specification reviews to ensure full testability and coverage;
  • Develop test plans, strategies, and test procedures for system, subsystem, and integration levels;
  • Design and execute manual and automated test cases using test tools, simulators, and HIL systems;
  • Perform software and hardware validation against system requirements, interface documents, and functional specifications;
  • Collaborate with internal and external engineering teams to identify and resolve defects;
  • Document defects clearly in tracking tools to support troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis;
  • Generate test reports, metrics, and regular status updates for project and program reviews;
  • Support continuous improvement of test processes, tools, and methodologies;
  • Contribute to the development of test automation scripts and utilities;
  • Provide independent technical insights while collaborating across global engineering teams.
