Job Description:

Key Responsibilities

  • Offers support as a liaison between Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, and suppliers to resolve supplier quality issues and to provide technical support. 
  • Supports investigation of supplier quality problems and coordinates implementation of effective and timely resolutions.  
  • Communicates supplier part quality issues.
  • Coordinates containment activities to minimize supplied part quality impact to the plants.
  • Provides, as needed, support for formal 8D containment, root cause, and corrective action documentation.  Coordinates supplier scheduling of formal 8D report outs either at Allison or via teleconference. (Note: 8D is a standard automotive industry problem solving methodology)
  • Ensures required supplier quality documentation is organized and retained according to corporate guidelines.  
  • Reviews and audits supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems.  Summarizes, reports, and presents audit results. 
  • Assists in the implementation and monitoring of advanced quality planning with selected future product suppliers, as required.  
  • Validates supplier design of product and processes utilizing the automotive standard, AIAG PPAP process (Automotive Industry Action Group Production Part Approval Process).  Implements and monitors part conformance.        
  • Improves quality performance of supplier by conducting workshops at supplier locations, providing technical assistance in developing a quality system, or other technical support required.  
  • Posts, calculates, and analyzes routine statistical data.   
  • Manages ongoing relationships and resolves conflicts as needed.   
  • Adheres to corporate purchasing policies and procedures. 
  • Assures accurate and timely records are maintained within various systems, including Supplier Quality Notifications (SQN), SAP ERP, and online Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).   
  • Maintains a physical presence in the workplace.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Oral and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate orally and in written format in cross-functional environments.   
  • Knowledge of statistical quality control techniques.   
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes.  
  • Knowledge of gaging techniques. 
  • Proficient interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.   
  • Knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).     
  • Relatively high level of analytical ability where problems are complex.   
  • Collaboration in a variety of work settings. 
  • Familiar with a variety of Purchasing / Global Supply Chain concepts. 
  • Wide degree of creativity and latitude. 
  • Knowledge of AIAG standards. 
  • Ability to organize, plan, document tasks, and prioritize work.  
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Certified Quality Analyst (CQA) 
    • ASQ certified Quality Engineer (CQE) 
    • Certified Six Sigma Black Belt 
    • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt

Experience

  • 0-2 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Scope

  • Manages assignments and workload with a reasonable level of autonomy; daily tasks are typically self-directed and associated priorities are generally self-determined. 
  • Performs a variety of complex tasks, with a reasonable scope of work and span of control expected of an entry-level position.

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 50%
