We are seeking an experienced Senior Underwriting Manager to join our Commercial Auto team at One80 Intermediaries. In this role, you will manage underwriting operations within established guidelines and delegated authority between our MGU and carrier partners. Responsibilities include risk selection, pricing, and reviewing endorsements, renewals, and new business submissions. You will also oversee a team of underwriters, providing leadership, training, and performance management to achieve departmental goals.
This position requires strong management experience, underwriting expertise, and the ability to build broker and agent relationships through targeted marketing efforts. Creativity, multitasking, and alignment with our collaborative culture are essential for success.
Your Impact:
Assess and price endorsements, renewals, and new business according to guidelines and authority as outlined in the underwriting manual
Prepare the underwriting and rating work-up on renewal and new business policies
Select and/or verify class code and premium base and rating exposure
Determine appropriate credits and/or debits to obtain a fair and sustained premium for risk
Collaborate on determining all coverage forms and necessary endorsements
Effectively communicate to broker quote conditions
Provide accurate documentation in the file and/or in electronic notes of underwriting thought process
Ability to think outside of the box and develop solutions that address their specific insurance needs
Ensure timely and accurate preparation and issuance of policies, as identified including the ability to delegate tasks to Junior team members
Provide accurate documentation in the file and/or in electronic notes of underwriting thought process
Order/review inspection reports to assess risk quality and to confirm exposure base accuracy, as assigned by manager
Actively manage relationships with assigned brokers and agents
Manage/approve internal delegated underwriting authority and subsequent referrals, developed within approved guidelines
Provide training and mentoring for other Transportation team members when required
Successful Candidates Will Have:
Minimum 7 years’ experience as a Commercial Transportation Underwriter in a multi-state and multi-line commercial insurance environment required
Strong technical P&C underwriting knowledge and skills, specifically focused on Commercial Auto
Advanced knowledge of ISO commercial class codes and CLM rules, forms, rating, and regulatory requirements
Strong knowledge of underwriting and pricing principles and the ability to use this knowledge to make underwriting and pricing decisions based on program criteria and strategy
Results-oriented, initiative-taking problem solver with excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to organize and prioritize workload with little supervision and efficiently make sound business decisions within level of authority
Should expect to assist with training and development of less experienced staff. This includes the ability to do formal and informal training

Pay Range:
147,700 - 240,000 AnnualThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for this role.
