Job summary

This is a role for a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our Exposure Management department on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave with particular focus on Chaucer’s Political Violence, Political/Credit Risk, Marine and Energy classes of business.

The primary focus of the role is to provide expertise in risk aggregation (including aggregation systems), risk assessment, data analysis, catastrophe modelling and exposure management to support our modelling and Underwriting teams. The successful candidate will work on various data-driven projects, collaborating closely with underwriters and analysts to ensure timely delivery and achievement of project objectives. In addition, the role will involve supporting the analyst teams with their business-as-usual activities, offering guidance and expertise when required.

Main duties
  • Support the Portfolio Manager in any Exposure Management reviews of existing processes and modelling.

  • Lead and manage specific projects related to exposure management, ensuring timely and accurate completion.

  • Undertake projects to support Underwriters strategy or to fill identified modelling or aggregation capture gaps.

  • Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders, summarising findings and recommendations.

  • Provide expert assistance in analysing and managing exposure to Political Violence, Political/Credit Risk  and Marine & Energy classes.

  • Conduct comprehensive data analysis to identify trends and assess risks.

  • Evaluate potential risks and exposures, offering insights and recommendations to enhance risk management practices.

  • Work closely with underwriters and other key stakeholders ensuring effective communication and coordination.

  • Support the Senior analysts and the Portfolio manager with the maintenance of the in-force PV & Marine and Energy portfolio, ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the data and results and relevant Regulatory returns.

  • Support the monitoring of position against risk appetite measures and help underwriters optimise their usage of available risk appetite.

  • Support the provision of analysis and insight into the model outputs to underwriters at both an account and portfolio level.

  • Work closely with Underwriters to understand their priorities and manage their expectations accordingly and support any growth strategies.

  • Support the production of outwards reinsurance data submissions in conjunction with Senior Analysts, Portfolio Manager and the Reinsurance Placing team.

  • Support training and development of Exposure analysts.

  • Support the Senior analysts and the Portfolio manager with day-to-day relationship management of the outsourcing teams.

  • Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  • Keep up to date with Lloyd’s reporting requirements for the relevant classes. 

Our requirementsRelevant experience           
  • Experienced catastrophe modeller

  • Aggregation systems experience

  • Experience in considering alternative methodologies outside of a standard cat modelling approach

  • Team management experience would be advantageous

  • Managing outsourcing arrangements (desirable)

Skills and competencies          
  • Aggregation systems experience (ideally Sequel Impact)

  • Advanced use of MS Excel

  • A thorough understanding of (re)insurance concepts, slip terms and conditions

  • A thorough understanding of non-nat cat Exposure Modelling and tools

  • Desirable

  • Experience using insurance catastrophe models (e.g RMS)

  • Excellent organisational skills and able to meet deadlines and objectives

  • Positive, proactive and self-motivating

  • Excellent analytical skills and logically minded

  • Team player with supervisory skills

  • Excellent communications skills; able to present complex information clearly and concisely

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build effective relationships and manage stakeholders
