About the Team:
South China Morning Post is looking for a high-caliber sales leader to spearhead our expansion into the Malaysia market. As part of our International Team, you will be based in Malaysia but report directly to the regional leadership in Singapore. This is a strategic role designed for a "hunter" who can bridge local market nuances with a global perspective, driving growth through innovative media solutions and high-level networking.
Purpose of the Position:
The primary goal of this role is to establish and scale SCMP’s commercial presence in Malaysia. You will be responsible for revenue growth through the business development of new accounts and the cultivation of existing relationships. You will leverage your knowledge of the Malaysian media landscape and your global vision, specifically regarding China’s economic influence and trends, to sell complex integrated solutions, including but not limited to event sponsorships and branded content.
- Act as the primary lead for the Malaysia market, identifying and capturing new business opportunities to grow SCMP's footprint.
- Focus on storytelling and idea-driven activations. You will sell a diverse portfolio: branded content partnerships, event sponsorships, digital display (direct/programmatic), and print.
- Advise Malaysian clients on reaching international audiences, with a particular focus on the China–ASEAN corridor and Hong Kong’s strategic role in facilitating regional engagement.
- Own the full sales cycle for client and agency accounts in Malaysia, providing expert knowledge on the local media landscape.
- Work closely with the Singapore-based International Sales Team, and Hong Kong-based Marketing, Content, Events and Campaign Management to deliver best-in-class solutions.
- Define and implement sales plans, manage weekly revenue forecasting, and maintain a robust pipeline.
- Represent SCMP at industry events and build high-level partnerships with C-suite clients and major media agencies in Malaysia.
- Work closely with the appointed authorized sales representative in Malaysia to liaise with them for sales opportunities.
- Deep-rooted knowledge of the Malaysia market combined with an understanding of global business trends, particularly those involving China.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in media sales, with a demonstrable history of consistently achieving or exceeding revenue targets.
- Demonstrates excellent presentation and storytelling abilities, able to clearly communicate ideas and ensure their successful implementation from concept to execution.
- Established relationships with key media agencies and brand decision-makers within Malaysia, particularly with Government Ministries and Agencies, Government-Linked Companies (GLCs), financial institutions and major conglomerates.
- Ability to work independently while remaining aligned with a remote reporting structure in Singapore.
- Able to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment, with strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
- Exceptional written and spoken English and Bahasa Melayu.
- Proficient in Salesforce, Google G Suite, and digital advertising metrics.
- University graduate, preferably in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related disciplines.
