The Role

• Lead the strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement of vehicle diagnostics for engineering and diagnostic tools development and support across development, production, and aftersales for commercial vehicles.

• Manage a team of diagnostics engineers, tools developers, protocol specialists, and analysts, providing technical guidance, mentorship, performance management, and fostering a collaborative and innovation‑driven culture.

• Formulate, execute, and track diagnostics programs and projects covering diagnostic concepts, data models, and tooling in compliance with industry standards such as UDS (ISO 14229), ASAM-SOVD, ODX (ISO 22901), and OTX (ISO 13209).

• End‑to‑end responsibility for the development and deployment of diagnostics technologies and tester protocols, aligned to current E/E architectures and the transition toward software‑defined vehicle (SDV) architectures.

• Lead diagnostic protocol development for tester tools, including ECU communication, diagnostic services, flashing, coding, routines, and variant handling for development, production, and service use cases.

• Ensure diagnostics readiness for production and aftersales and remote diagnostics solutions.

• Lead the team of Product Owners for diagnostic engineering tools and platforms, defining product vision, roadmap, feature prioritization, and lifecycle management.

• Perform impact analysis related to diagnostics content changes, ECU updates, and architecture evolution, ensuring backward compatibility and regulatory compliance.

• Maintain strong awareness of vehicle cybersecurity standards and secure diagnostics concepts, ensuring diagnostics solutions align with cybersecurity requirements (e.g., secure access, authentication, authorization) in collaboration with cybersecurity teams.

• Effective and timely stakeholder management across vehicle development, manufacturing, aftersales, IT, cybersecurity, and Global suppliers.

• Active and engaged member of the cross‑functional Diagnostics, Cyber Security, Functional Safety, and E/E Architecture organization.

• Act as regional lead for diagnostics processes, standards, and work products, ensuring consistency, scalability, and high quality across global programs.

• Work closely with vehicle system and component owners throughout the development lifecycle to implement, validate, and release diagnostics content aligned to global processes.

• Constantly challenge the status quo, strengthen team competencies, and identify opportunities to expand diagnostics capabilities, tools, and service value propositions.

• Create and execute project strategies with roadmaps at team level to expand diagnostics ownership and responsibility at the India location.

• Drive innovation in diagnostics by enabling problem identification, development of problem statements, ideation of new diagnostic solutions, creation of Proof of Concepts, early productization, and patent generation where applicable.

• Lead cross‑functional activities and collaborate closely with leadership teams, suppliers, and partners as required.

• Ensure quality, reliability, and timeliness of all diagnostics deliverables across programs.

• Flexible to travel globally based on business needs for supplier discussions, technical reviews, and program management activities.

• Ensure continuous knowledge build‑up, performance monitoring, and structured feedback for team members.

Qualifications

• 12–18 years of industry experience with B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Engineering or related disciplines (Automotive, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, or similar).

• Strong professional experience in automotive vehicle diagnostics, including definition, development, and deployment of diagnostics solutions across vehicle development, production, and aftersales phases.

• Proven expertise in automotive diagnostic standards and data models, including UDS (ISO 14229), ODX (ISO 22901), OTX (ISO 13209) & AUTOSAR Standards

• Handson or working experience in diagnostic protocol development for testers, including ECU communication, flashing, variant coding, routines, and service workflows.

• Working coding proficiency in Java and C# (.NET), with experience or working knowledge in developing or extending:

– Diagnostic tester applications and automation tools

– Backend or desktop tools supporting diagnostics workflows

– Scripts or utilities for diagnostics validation, data handling, or tooling integration

• Ability to review, guide, and technically mentor teams on Java and C#based diagnostics tools and frameworks, even when not contributing as a fulltime developer.

• Working awareness of SoftwareDefined Vehicle (SDV) and ServiceOriented Vehicle Diagnostics (SOVD) concepts, architectural direction, and industry evolution, with the ability to collaborate effectively with platform architects and Diagnostic Steering Committees.

• Experience acting as Product Owner or Feature Owner for diagnostic tools or platforms, including roadmap creation, backlog prioritization, and lifecycle ownership.

• Good understanding of production and aftersales diagnostics toolchains, including manufacturing diagnostics, EOL testing, workshop service tools, and remote diagnostics interfaces.

• 2+ years of direct people management experience as a line manager, leading diagnostics or software engineering teams of approximately 10–15 members.

• Strong experience in program and project management, including planning, execution, dependency management, risk mitigation, and delivery against schedule, cost, and quality targets.

• Working knowledge of vehicle cybersecurity standards and secure diagnostics concepts, including awareness of ISO/SAE 21434 and secure access mechanisms for diagnostic data.

• Solid understanding of vehicle E/E architectures, ECUs, and invehicle networks (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and their impact on diagnostics system design.

• Proven ability to collaborate across global and crossfunctional teams, including diagnostics, E/E architecture, cybersecurity, manufacturing, aftersales, suppliers, and steering committees.

• Experience working in multicultural and multiregional automotive environments, including collaboration with Europe and North America.

• Demonstrated credentials in driving innovation, process optimization, and competency development within engineering organizations.

• Strong analytical thinking, problemsolving ability, and clear communication skills suited to a senior leadership role in a complex automotive environment.
