About the Foundations team
On the Foundations team, you will be responsible for the core experiences that power North, including the conversational interface, agentic loops, model integrations, API surfaces, and white-label configurations. You'll work on the foundational systems that enable our user’s AI-powered workflows, accounting for both technical and non-technical users. This role requires fluency in AI/ML concepts, emerging trends in agentic systems, and the technical understanding to design extensible experiences that evolve with rapidly advancing capabilities. You'll think in systems, anticipating how your designs scale across multiple use cases, deployment models, and customer configurations, and partner closely with Engineering and Product to deliver exceptional work.
In this role, you will:
Own the design process end-to-end for Foundations initiatives. Shape the core user experiences that define how people interact with North, from conversation flows to model selection and agent configuration.
Balance technical complexity and constraints with intuitive user experience while holding a high craft and quality bar, ensuring every interaction feels polished and purposeful.
Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional partners across the organization, as Foundations work intersects with nearly every other team.
Conduct user research with diverse audiences, translating insights into design principles and patterns that serve multiple personas.
Contribute to and evolve design systems and interaction patterns that maintain consistency across the product while supporting rapid experimentation and feature development.
Stay current on AI/ML trends, competitive landscape, and emerging interaction paradigms, bringing informed perspective on how conversational AI and agentic experiences should evolve.
You're likely a good fit if you have:
Product Design Experience: 4+ years designing digital products with a strong portfolio that demonstrates your process, systems thinking, and measurable impact on user outcomes.
Cross-Functional Partnership: A collaborative approach to product development—working closely with Product Managers to identify opportunities, with Engineers to navigate technical constraints and review implementations, and with stakeholders across the organization to align on solutions.
User-Centered Approach: A deep commitment to understanding user needs through research and direct engagement. You drive research initiatives, translate findings into design decisions, and stay informed on industry trends and AI developments that shape the product landscape.
Craft Excellence: Meticulous attention to craft and detail. You're proficient in Figma, build scalable component systems, and consistently elevate the quality of everything you touch. Bonus points for strong visual design skills in typography, layout, color, and composition.
Communication Skills: Clear, proactive communication that keeps distributed teams aligned. You document decisions, articulate design rationale to diverse audiences, and create shared understanding across geographies and disciplines.
