About the Job

We’re looking for a qualified Developer with previous experience building pricing models, preferably within an (re)insurance environment.

As a (re)insurance firm, building accurate, efficient pricing models which are used by our underwriters helps to inform the correct level of premium required for the risks we are adding to our portfolio. Insurance companies couldn’t function without these tools. As a direct report to the Head of Pricing Systems & Data, the ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, a deep understanding of software development best practices, and experience working in a pricing or actuarial environment, ideally within the (re)insurance sector.

What you’ll spend your time doing:

  • Work closely with the Head of Pricing Systems & Data to create strategic, scalable designs and architectures for pricing systems & data.
  • Lead the internal design, development, and deployment of pricing systems & data.
  • Work with underwriters, actuaries, and analysts to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior developers and analysts.
  • Design and implement software best-practices and standards for all for pricing systems and data.
  • Drive innovation in pricing systems, matching technology with pricing requirements.

What you’ll need:

For this particular role there are some important qualifications and experience we need you to have. These include:

Must haves:

  • Proven track record as a developer in an insurance or financial services environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of programming environments and languages (e.g. .Net, SQL, C#, VBA, Javascript, XML, HTML, JSON).
  • Experience working with Azure platform.
  • Working knowledge of software delivery and development process;
  • Experience building Excel-integrated applications and/or web-based pricing platforms.
  • Strong database skills (SQL Server) and data modelling and integration experience.
  • Proactive, collaborative, flexible and adaptable with a drive to succeed.
  • Technical mentoring for junior developers.
  • Ability to communicate solutions to the Head of Pricing Systems & Data, senior technical analysts and actuaries.
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Work with IT support to implement new changes and provide BAU support and analysis.
  • Proactive, curious, and keen to drive continuous improvement.

Desirable:

  • Experience of developing complex modelling applications in an underwriting environment.
  • Working knowledge of developing applications for pricing and modelling to implement pricing algorithms.
  • Strong comprehension of working with large data sets and being able to write complex SQL queries.
  • Previous Lloyd’s and PRA experience.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practice.
  • Experience of GIT/TFS.
  • Managing code branches and releases.
  • Strong personal time management with ability to respond to tight deadlines in a demanding environment.
  • Strong relationship management skills – a good communicator who is able to interact with Underwriters, colleagues and senior management.
  • Possessing strong presentational skills both written and oral;
