Your role and responsibilities
In this role as Senior Mechanical Designer, you will have the opportunity to design and develop mechanical components for custom Baldor/Reliance NEMA motors across four global manufacturing plants. As design authority, you will deliver detailed drawings, specifications, calculations, and Bills of Materials for custom motor orders, applying design for excellence concepts to ensure performance, manufacturability, and compliance with customer and quality requirements.

This role is contributing to the NEMA Baldor/Reliance Custom Motor Design Engineering Team} in Tlajomulco de Zuñiga, Jalisco. Main stakeholders are Product Development, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Sales.
You will be mainly accountable for:
Serve as design authority for mechanical components on custom Baldor/Reliance NEMA motor orders, independently product complete detailed drawings, technical specifications, and BOM's that fully satisfy customer order requirements, and ABB quality standards.
Apply engineering principles and design concepts to optimize mechanical designs for motor performance, reliability, and manufacturability. exercise senior level technical judgement to resolve design challenges and drive continuous improvements.
Create and review detailed mechanical drawings and specifications in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks); ensure all documentation meets drafting standards, design intent, and regulatory requirements.
Ensure all mechanical designs comply with applicable engineering standards; proactively identify compliancy gaps and implement corrective design actions.
Lead and actively participate in design reviews and design verification activities using engineering checklists; drive modifications to closure and document lessons learned for future projects.
Own and maintain accuracy and completeness of BOMs, design drawings, and motor technical data to support consistent manufacturing execution across four global plants, enforce revision control and data integrity standards.
Initiate and mange Technical Data Releases (TDRs) when changes are made to existing designs, drawings, and customer data; ensure all stakeholders are notified and documentation is updated in a controlled manner.
Manage personal workload and design order flow across multiple concurrent custom motor projects; prioritize effectively and escalate scheduling conflicts to the engineering manager to ensure on time delivery.
Identify and champion cost reduction and product improvement opportunities through design optimization, material selection, and process improvements.
Serve as a technical resource for Product Development, Manufacturing, Marketing, and Sales; provide expert guidance on design feasibility, customization options, and motor capabilities.

Qualifications for the role
Bachelors Degree (Mechanical Engineering Preferred) with minimum 2 years experience in electric motor design, Or Associates Degree (Mechanical Design/Drafting Preferred) with 4 Years experience in Mechanical Design.
Expertise in complex part and assembly modeling for production ready designs.
Strong command of mechanical design fundamentals, including GD&T, tolerance analysis, and a variety of manufacturing processes such as die casting, machining, stamping, plastic molding, and fabrication.
Proven ability to create accurate production documentation, including detailed drawings, BOMs, and engineering records, while supporting design changes and revisions.
proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for engineering analysis, data reporting, and technical presentations.
Proficient in English language, strong written and verbal communication.
