Summary:
The Tax Senior Manager will work closely with the Director of Tax to lead the Company’s sales & use, GST, property, and other transactional tax functions. This role oversees compliance, audits, and planning initiatives, drives process improvements, and ensures accurate and timely reporting across all indirect business taxes. The Tax Senior Manager will supervise staff, review filings, and support strategic tax initiatives, including system enhancements and transactional tax implications. Experience with Vertex and/or Avalara is required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead all sales & use, GST, property, and other transactional tax compliance, including timely filings, payments, and account reconciliations.
- Manage and develop staff, providing training, workflow direction, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee sales & use tax automation, including configuration, maintenance, and issue resolution in indirect tax engine platforms.
- Lead resale exemption certificate collection, validation, and documentation policies, including implementing controls and ensuring proper storage and renewals.
- Manage state and local transactional tax audits, including data requests, responses, and negotiation of assessments.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting sales & use and other indirect taxes to assess business impact and implement required changes.
- Review contracts, product taxability, and business operations to ensure proper tax treatment and minimize risk.
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and procedural efficiencies related to transactional taxes.
- Provide tax guidance to business units on changes in operations, system updates, customer/vendor issues, and new business initiatives.
- Support acquisition activities, including indirect tax due diligence, nexus reviews, and integration of acquired entities into tax systems.
- Review property tax filings and assessments and coordinate appeal processes as needed.
- Prepare and review internal memoranda, technical research, and tax documentation supporting positions and compliance.
- Assist the Director of Tax with state tax aspects of the income tax provision, including apportionment and uncertain tax positions (FIN48).
- Participate in other departmental projects as assigned.
Reporting Relationships:
- Reports immediately to Director of Tax but needs to be able to work independently or with limited supervision.
- Significant contact with senior management, external tax consultants, customers, and representatives of various jurisdictional revenue agencies.
Requirements:
- BS in accounting
- Minimum 7 years of experience in indirect tax function
- Will have attained at least the manager level in public accounting and/or had similar experience in corporate tax function
- Experience with indirect tax automation platforms (Vertex and/or Avalara)
Preferred:
- CPA
- Master’s degree in Tax
- Experience with SAP, OneStream, OneSource Tax Provision
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit a computer terminal for long periods of time.
- Ability to be physically in attendance at workstation at designated company office location during normal business hours designated for the position.
Compensation:
Base Range : $117,000 - $125,000 and total compensation range $130,000 - $140,000
Actual annual salary offered to a candidate will be based on a number of variables including work experience, education and skills/ achievements, and will be mutually agreed upon at the time of offer.
For non-sales roles and sales roles with a variable component, total compensation reflects both a base salary and variable targets.
