Job Description
About the role:
The Senior Maintenance Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of plant equipment that supports utilities including high-pressure steam boilers; chillers, heating/cooling air handling units, process wastewater treatment systems, water purification systems (water softening and carbon bed filtration, reverse osmosis, continuous deionization equipment, sanitary pumps, multi-effect distillation equipment), tank mixers, air compressors and dryers, and chilled water distribution systems. You will report to a utilities supervisor in rotation shift environment, located in Social Circle, GA.
You will perform corrective maintenance and routine preventative maintenance on plant utilities equipment with emphasis on refrigeration and HVAC systems following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Completing work orders, logs and forms following cGMP documentation practices and Quality Standards in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing facility is mandatory. ).
Responsibilities include gas welding, operating diagnostic equipment and instrumentation, use of technical measuring devices, read and interpreting electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems schematics/blueprints.
How you will contribute:

  • Repair refrigeration systems, low, medium and normal temperature, cold storage equipment, building automation system components, mechanical and electrical equipment as assigned.
  • All work must be completed observing cGMPs, SOPs, job plans, and company policies.
  • Ensure that forms and work order documentation are completed with accurate information.
  • Respond to calls and conduct repairs throughout the facility. May be assigned to escort a contractor performing work on the premises.
  • Provide support for the startup of new equipment to ensure it meets all mechanical design specifications.
  • Maintain refrigerant records in compliance with US EPA and SCAQMD-mandated refrigeration record-keeping
  • Will provide troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair of refrigeration systems and equipment components related to positional responsibilities which include: HVAC, Chillers, electrical controls, compressors, pumps, piping, plumbing, blowers, dehumidifiers and facility equipment.
  • Perform Disposal of Hazardous Waste
  • Respond to urgent and emergency work orders for the utilities department.
  • Close assigned work orders in JDE System.
  • Complete Change Control documentation (PRs) if required by the assigned work order
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA, NEC, UBS, UMC and UPC in compliance GA state and federal EPA regulation and laws.
  • Keep designated area 5S'd. (Safety, Sort, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
  • Develop proficiency in one or more advanced maintenance technologies and understand how to apply technology to improve equipment reliability, e.g., alignment, balancing, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasound, or vibration monitoring.
  • Must follow safety rules and ensure compliance with GA state and federal EPA regulations and laws.
  • Attend required Instructor Lead Training and planned team meetings
  • Demonstrate progress concerning increasing job knowledge and proficiency in technical understanding.
  • Maintain a positive, and customer-oriented attitude. Communicate any concerns related to safe work practices, hostile work environment, sexual harassment, or any other type of employee misconduct directly to their supervisor, or management.
  • Interact with Plant Engineering Department personnel. Moderate interaction with other departments.
  • Advance troubleshooting and repairs of plant utilities equipment
  • Ordering, maintaining inventory for refrigerant logs

What You Bring to Takeda:

  • Typically requires a high school diploma or GED plus 8+ years of related industrial related experience. Pharmaceutical, or utilities experience preferred.
  • Two-year certificate in a technical field such as HVAC, building trades or building utilities program, or equivalent military experience is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in the maintenance trades
  • Journeyman skilled craft training/apprenticeship certificate or commensurate combination of technical education and experience preferred
  • Understand technical manuals and wiring schematics
  • Must have good customer service skills and promote a teamwork environment
  • Shall be trained and qualified on designated facility SOPs governing the operation of critical systems, Refrigeration, HVAC, Electrical, utilities and local GMP practices.
  • Requires familiarity with generally accepted building, plumbing, piping, electrical, and fire protection practices and codes.
  • Communicate in verbal and written form; Work with peers and other teams.
  • Ability to seek outside resources as needed.
  • Read and understand procedures, schematics, and job blueprints.
  • Provide a limited level of troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair of building systems, equipment, and equipment components.
  • Familiar with CMMS, JDE, and/or Maximo
  • Can understand cGMPs and other regulatory guidelines applicable to the medical/pharmaceutical industry.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, SCADA, process control software, and other computer base applications
  • May work in a cold, wet environment; May experience sunlight and heat, dust, gasses and fumes.
  • May stand and walk frequently while evaluating utilities equipment; May be around moving equipment and machinery.
  • May climb up and into large tanks for inspection; May work in a loud area that requires hearing protection and other protective equipment to be worn.
  • May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, and buffers that may require respiratory protection.
  • May work or be assigned to a different shift as needed; Role requires shift, weekend and holiday work.
  • Can work 12-hour shifts and rotate(2/2/3) with assigned shifts; Overtime may be required.
  • Requires performing activities within the plant utilities equipment, mechanical work, and computer-based activities.
  • May lift up to 50 pounds when managing chemicals.


Important Considerations

  • May wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and other clean room garments daily. This may include safety shoes, safety glasses, aprons, face shields, lab coats, full body gowns, hair nets and gloves and hearing protection.
  • Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment.
  • Work in a cold, wet environment.
  • Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours.
  • Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:
$22.55 - $35.43
The estimated hourly wage range reflects an anticipated range for this position. U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term incentives.
