Percona is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer with deep expertise in Golang to join our open-source engineering team and help us continue building Percona Monitoring and Management (PMM). This is a senior individual contributor role for an engineer who thrives on solving challenging problems, is motivated by technical ownership, and is passionate about open-source innovation.
You will be contributing to further enhancing and extending PMM, a free and open-source platform for monitoring the performance of open-source SQL/NoSQL-based databases, servers, and cloud instances.
This is an amazing opportunity as we’re entering a new chapter for PMM development. The objectives are ambitious, the work is challenging, but that’s why it’s also fun and rewarding!
This is a remote role, allowing you to work from your home office while collaborating with a globally distributed team using modern online tools. You’ll be part of a fast-paced, high-quality engineering environment focused on delivering value to Percona and its worldwide user base. Occasional travel—typically once per year—may be expected for team meet-ups or company events.
What You Will Do
Develop scalable, high-volume, performant applications focused on simplicity and user delight
Produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration
Collaborate intensely with other engineers, designers, and product managers
Participate in code and design reviews, teaching and learning from other engineers
Identify and uphold engineering best practices
Identify, leverage, and successfully evangelize opportunities to improve engineering productivity
Train, mentor and support other engineers
Your Experience
Ability to work as a team player as well as independently in a fully remote environment
5+ years of experience in Golang or similar programming languages with strong programming fundamentals (C++, OO)
Experience with databases, preferably MongoDB, MySQL or PostgreSQL (not expert, scaling, large deployment, cluster. Not operating. Any DB, ideally our stack
Comfortable with Linux (basic usage as a programmer)
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Experience designing, building, and documenting APIs
Experience writing and maintaining unit tests
Fluent in written and verbal English language skills
What Will Make You Stand Out
Experience in database monitoring and system observability in general
Knowledge of other databases/data stores (Memcached, ClickHouse, Valkey/Redis)
Experience in leveraging and integrating AI/ML capabilities into software products
Experience with continuous deployment to cloud / virtualized environments (DevOps)
Development experience on cloud computing platform (AWS, Azure or OpenShift)
Experience with Prometheus or VictoriaMetrics
Deep knowledge of security and encryption techniques for transmitting and storing sensitive data
Open source development experience
