Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant 1 is responsible for helping to ensure the accuracy, completeness and appropriateness of general ledger transactions in accordance with US GAAP.  Requires the ability to read and interpret contractual terms to ensure all costs associated with contractual commitments are recorded in the financial statements during the appropriate accounting period.  This position will participate in a variety of financial functions including month-end closing, financial reporting and other administrative functions.  Areas of responsibility will typically be in most challenging areas of the Company’s accounting, including R&D accruals.  A SOX-compliant mindset, strong, proactive, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and desire and ability to identify, recommend and lead improvements is important.  Other duties include reviewing coding on invoices, maintaining banking records, reconciling BS schedules, and miscellaneous accounting and administrative duties.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

These may include but are not limited to:

  • Support month-end close process, including data entry, reconciliation of sub-ledgers to the general ledger, and maintenance of balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Prepare G&A, and select R&D accruals, including maintaining trackers, coordination with functional leaders and analyzing other accruals for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist with operationalizing contract terms and ensuring appropriate accounting treatment in accordance with guidance assessed by the SEC & Technical Accounting team
  • Manage prepaid reconciliations, including subscriptions, insurance and other prepaid accounts
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting including additions, disposals, depreciation, and execution of the annual fixed asset inventory
  • Prepare and record payroll‑related journal entries and partner closely with the Payroll team to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Utilize and efficiently operate the accounting modules of the company’s accounting system and related financial systems.
  • Prepare audit schedules and analyses and respond to internal and external auditor inquiries
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures, and internal controls to maintain compliance with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements
  • Participate in process improvements, system enhancements, and documentation efforts to increase efficiency and effectiveness
  • Perform special projects, financial analyses, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • BS degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent with 5 years of accounts payable/accounting experience, preferably in life science
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, QuickBooks and/or NetSuite experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Finance, Payroll, Legal, and operational teams
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, maintain positive attitude and meet deadlines
  • Ability to gather, analyze and interpret information for completeness and accuracy; excellent attention to detail; excellent organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in Coupa and Floqast
  • Experience in a public company, pre‑IPO, or high‑growth environment

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Salary Range

The salary range for this position is: $83,000 - $104,000.

In addition to your base pay, our total rewards program consists of a discretionary annual target bonus, stock options, ESPP, and 401k match.
