The Scale House Attendant/Operator is the first point of contact for customers at our facility. Daily responsibilities include performing initial inspection of loads, collecting, reviewing, and processing the appropriate paperwork. The Scale House attendant/operator also ensures the safety of all customers/visitors, and other employees through observation of company safety rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Receive logs, chips or other material into the plant.
- Inspect loads to ensure quality criteria is met.
- Weigh incoming trucks, issue a ticket for receipt into the plant and re-weigh truck upon exit of the plant to ensure accurate billing.
- Ensure safety of scale area and that loads are not brought in that do not meet safety criteria.
- Keep scale and ramps clean and free of debris.
- As first point of contact, communicate in a professional, courteous manner with our suppliers.
- Assist drivers with the scaling system and safety protocol to ensure accurate information and driver safety.
- Other jobs as directed.
Qualifications
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to use a touch-screen computer.
Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart
- High School Diploma or GED
- Experience in the wood industry
- At least 1 year of manufacturing/industrial experience
- Prior industrial safety knowledge, OSHA training, etc.
- Willingness to cross train
- Willingness to work overtime to fill in for other scale house operators
- Ability to identify logs, hardwood chips, softwood chips and other wood products
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
- Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
- Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day
- Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
