Underwriting Consultant - Account Mgmt (Warranty & Alt Risks)

Position Summary
The Underwriting Consultant is responsible for managing a portfolio of warranty clients to achieve revenue, profitability, new programs, and renewal goals. The Consultant will use technical, sales and analytical skills to provide insurance solutions that help CNA's customers manage risk and grow profitably while also working collaboratively with the Warranty team to evaluate and implement new programs. The open position is located in Chicago reporting to the Underwriting Director.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with existing key clients and partners including distribution partners, third party administrators, manufacturers and retailers
  • Responsible for all aspects of assigned domestic and international account portfolio including account execution and results, cultivating new and existing client and broker relationships, and renewal negotiations
  • Ownership of key client account related processes and client specific account relationships
  • Drives new opportunities for organic growth by analyzing deal and underwriting requirements, assessing risk, and collaborating with technical underwriting and actuarial team members on recommendations and analyses
  • Proactively identifies cross-sell opportunities and partners with other business units to deliver comprehensive insurance solutions for the customer
  • Liaison with marketing and corporate communications team to effectively develop and execute the business unit's strategy for external marketing and communications
  • Demonstrates technical underwriting skills through strategic, thorough account reviews and file documentation
  • Prepares and analyzes information on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, and underwriting requirements for client portfolio accounts

  • Strong analytic, decision making and leadership skills
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility, team and/or matrix environment
  • Adept at cultivating strong relationships with client base
  • Ability to uncover customer needs, position specific solutions, handle objections and implement changes
  • Proficiency to identify, analyze and solve problems as well as the ability to learn rapidly, adapt quickly to change, exercise influence, and manage and prioritize multiple concurrent projects
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven organizational, negotiation and project management skills
  • Strong collaboration, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Must be able to travel 25% of time (domestic and international)


Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Master's degree and/or professional designation strongly preferred.
