We are seeking a Security Sales Engineer to join our federal team. At Johnson Control's we support our nation's most critical facilities, the people who occupy them, and the missions they enable. Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) is a specialized team serving as a trusted partner to the federal government. We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.

Location: Remote / Virtual (work from home) with the ability to travel up to 25%
Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment

Travel Required: Up to 25%

As a Security Sales Engineer, you will:

  • Provide technical sales support to the security sales organization including technical presentations and proposal development
  • Assist in the solution design and architecture design of building security systems (i.e., Access Controls, Intrusion Detection Systems, CCTV camera systems, data networks, etc.) at federal government sites
  • Provide detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, field installation teams, and subcontractors
  • Conduct facility on-site assessments, gather appropriate building configuration and floorplan layouts, and collate all data and documentation required for proposal response
  • Actively participate in and lead customer presentations and systems demonstrations utilizing technical knowledge, sales skills and business acumen to assist in driving opportunities that create growth.
  • Design and configure technically functional security systems as defined by contract documents. Ability to develop detailed technical approach narratives to include advantages of selected solutions and differentiators to other potential bidders.
  • Create drawing packages TDP (technical data packages), sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical requirements
  • Coordinate and create necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation
  • Work with Field Operations teams to ensure proper application of systems products to meet customer expectations
  • Potentially assist in product setup, coordination and support of product demonstrations, industry shows and exhibitions
  • Conduct market research on the upcoming technologies expected to impact the Federal security business and maintain an understanding of existing account base needs and gaps
  • Ensure the use of Johnson Controls Federal Systems policies and procedures in all aspects of project preparation and implementation.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the large commercial Electronic Security System (ESS) industry (Intrusion Detection Systems, Access Controls, CCTV, etc.). 5+ years preferred
  • Pre-sales engineering development of security projects exceeding $1 million dollars (on-site assessment, audits, surveys, cost estimates, submittals, drawing packages, network and/or electrical schematics, etc.)
  • Prior ESS sales experience
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Technical writing experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated advanced computer skills, particularly computer-related drafting tools. AutoCAD or Bluebeam preferred
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance required. (This involves a background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit check.)
  • Ability to travel up to 25%


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with large integrated electronic security systems at federal government sites
  • Field engineering experience with programming and/or integration of commercial security systems.
  • Knowledge and experience working with a broad range of industry systems; Softwarehouse Ccure 9000, Lenel, Bosch Video Management, Genetec, Vindicator, DMP, Exacqvision, etc.


Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Sales/Marketing, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience
