About the Role:

As our Sales Director, Advised 401(k), you’ll be a leader and a coach, a manager and an operator. You’ll be responsible for driving sales strategy and acquiring new strategic relationships, while guiding a team of passionate Account Executives as they build and develop relationships with advisors keen on offering an innovative 401(k) to their clients.  You’ll work directly with B4B’s leadership team to ensure that our vision is translated through to our sales team, day in and day out. You’ll bring your knowledge of the advised/401(k) space and intellectual curiosity into gaining a thorough understanding of our existing market, and strategize how we’ll build out this team near and long term. You’ll partner with Account Executives in helping companies discover how they can partner with B4B based on their needs.  We are seeking someone goal-oriented, who understands how to set up and motivate the team for long term success, drawing on your passion for financial wellness. In this role, you will drive sales through excellent forecasting, collaborating across the business, and supporting, training, and mentoring our sales team.  It will be critical that you are able to iterate quickly based on feedback and prioritize between multiple different stakeholders.    

The retirement space is far from stagnant and Betterment is a fast-paced environment. We’re looking for a candidate who is excited by the evolution of retirement benefits in the macro environment and can bring that excitement to our clients as we redefine employer benefits.

This role is remote eligible. Colorado has an annual starting salary of $85,000, variable compensation, a competitive equity package, health, dental and vision benefits, and a 401(k) offering. The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.

A Day in the Life:

  • Build strong lasting relationships with prospective clients (targeted 401(k) advisor firms) to drive meaningful sales outcomes and reach quarterly sales targets
  • Anticipate prospective client needs, questions, and hurdles and proactively address them
  • Deliver customized and strategic presentations and proposals
  • Identify, communicate and advocate product development opportunities from partner insights
  • Develop a thorough understanding of industry dynamics and key players in the employee benefits space
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure a smooth transition from Sales to Client Success
  • Help develop and continuously refine team processes and resources

What We’re Looking For:

  • A collaborative and empathetic sales leader with experience working with advisors and/or selling 401(k) products
  • Comfort working in a malleable environment; excitement for  
  • Enthusiasm for creating more access to retirement plans and advice on a team that’s a driving force in the employee wellness space
  • An understanding of successful management principles (forecasting, territory management, etc.)
  • Pragmatic and action-oriented attitude, ability to translate business needs and opportunities into solutions
  • Technology forward salesperson who is confident leveraging a tech stack to be effective

What Happens Next?

We expect to take a few weeks to review all applications. If we would like to spend more time with you, you will hear from us to arrange next steps. You can expect 3-4 sets of conversations, all remote, with your future colleagues in the weeks following your application.

Throughout the interview process, we’ll look to learn more about your skills, experiences, capabilities, and motivators. Many of our interview questions will be behavioral, aimed at understanding how you might operate here at Betterment. We may ask you to complete a case study exercise or technical assessments, depending on the role, as we aim to collect a robust set of data points throughout the interview process.

On average, it takes us around 2-3 weeks to make a hiring decision, depending on your availability and sense of urgency. As a best practice, we aim to interview at least 3 final round candidates before making a hiring decision.
