Market Development Manager - Transit

The objective of the Market Manager is to strategically grow the business for the Transit market and for the Sales and Marketing Organization (SMO) in the Americas. He or she will achieve their objectives by implementing global marketing strategies, as defined by the SMO and the Global Director of Transit by adapting it to fit the specific needs of the domestic marketplace. The primary focuses will be the 3rd rail market in North, Central, and South America.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the ability to strategically monitor and evaluate the Transit market, develop strong relationships with key customers, and expand the market share through effective sales and marketing management.
  • Perform effective market analysis and planning
  • Supports all corporate objectives and policies
  • Ensures SMO achieves Transit sales and profit goals
  • Manages Project Managers for projects within SMO Americas and projects managed from the COE for other SMO organizations
  • Identifies, monitors and coordinates special projects within SMO Americas and coordinates and communicates projects with the Global Director of Transit
  • Evaluates and effectively manages relationships with key end-users, engineering companies, consultants, resellers and distributors, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs)
  • Monitors and communicates competitor activity, sales data and product data with Americas SMO managers, Global Director of Transit, US Marketing Director and US Director of Product Management
  • Works closely with the Marketing department to develop and/or adapt applicable sales and marketing tools and determine the most effective advertisement media selection for the market.
  • Work with Product Manager and R&D Engineers to develop new products required to meet market demands
  • Develops and executes annual Strategic Market Development Plan outlining sales, marketing and business development strategies for the respective market and sub-segments.
  • Responsibility shall include relationship management, control of products being offered, pricing levels and influence on sales and distribution channels.
  • Communicate the progress of monthly/quarterly initiatives to internal and external stakeholders
  • Forecast and track key account metrics
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining professional networks; participating in industry organizations

Requirements:

  • Expert in his/her respective market must ensure the effective management and control of strategic sales and marketing activities, key customer management and project management.
  • Strong presentation and high-level negotiation skills, key relationship management skills and strong technical background to understand the complexities of a technical business environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present, and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization, including executive and C-level
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience delivering customer-focused solutions
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at a time with excellent time management skills
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a results-driven environment
  • Understanding of marketing measurement and analytics
  • Proficient at Microsoft Office and/or Office 365 Suites
  • Experience with NavPoint, Salesforce or other CRM software
  • Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of Sales or Business Development, preferably in the Transit market
  • A background in Mass Transit and Automated People Mover systems is desired
  • Experience with government contracting and responding to RFP/RFQ's is desired

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will manage the Transit Sales and Business Development staff.

Travel:

Travel of 25-50%. This may include international travel and occasional need to stay over weekends

Workload:

  • 50% Market Development - Business Development of Transit products for SMO Americas
  • 25% Market Management - Strategy, policies, working with Product Management and Development
  • 25% Department Administration- Overseeing Sales and Project Management Staff
