Amplify's Corporate Strategy and M&A functions are seeking a Director, starting in Q1 2021. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
We're looking for somebody who will:

  • Support identification of market trends, key themes, and developments in Amplify's changing landscape
    • Research market segments and competitive landscapes
    • Help synthesize changes in K-12 education and Amplify's market into concise, routine forecasts of major trends
  • Analyze and assess M&A opportunities to support Amplify's strategy
    • Analyze new market opportunities, producing quantitative assessments of benefits/risks as well as fit with Amplify strategy and capabilities
    • Identify and develop potential acquisition candidates based on defined strategic criteria
    • Participate in pre-transaction and due diligence efforts
    • Lead development of investment memos that capture feedback from leaders across Amplify and summarize opportunity
  • Help facilitate enterprise strategic planning
    • Work with Executive Team, including CEO & COO, on important strategic presentations
    • Support project management for annual strategic planning process
    • Monitor enterprise goals, using data to support assessment of progress and flagging risk areas
    • Run enterprise reporting processes for routine reports
    • Create presentations and reports to support internal and external communication
  • Support CFO on M&A and fundraising activities
    • Evaluation of acquisition opportunities
    • Transaction execution
    • Support with fundraising (e.g. presentations, leading data requests, etc.)
  • Over time, step into growing responsibility - gradually shifting from process management to project ownership with increasing independence

We think you'd enjoy this work if:

  • You orchestrate sophisticated processes skillfully - working backward from a clearly defined outcome, you set the milestones, stages, and key moments for all stakeholders to engage
  • You are analytic, but stay focused on the big picture - you are both able to dive deep on granular analysis and to contextualize that work in the larger arc of a project
  • You are high velocity, and have a strong bias to action - when confronted with a tough project or problem, you default to asking "what can I get done by noon?"
  • You believe in the power of education and educators - you care deeply about the experiences of young people and the educators and systems that serve them

We think that you'll succeed in this role if you've demonstrated these specific capabilities in your past work:

  • Process management: Establishes project plans, tracks progress, flags risks and dependencies
  • Market research: Uses published data sources (news reports, industry research) and primary research (interviews, focus groups) to collect background information on customer needs and expectations
  • Quantitative and financial analysis: Uses quantitative and - where relevant - financial lens to provide convincing and comprehensive answers to questions

Your Professional experience includes:

  • Corporate development, management consulting, or investment banking: You have 3+ years of experience in one of these industries or another where you've worked on high stakes problems, agreements, or transactions under time pressure through a combination of analytic rigor, strong project management, and communication skills (including responsibility for decks and reports intended for executive audiences)
  • Executive partnership: You have 3+ years of experience working directly with C-level executives - you have the presence, competence, and finesse to win trust from busy, capable managers

Preferred experience includes:

  • K-12 education (preferred): You've worked in the education space - maybe you were a teacher, or ran a school, or built a non-profit, or implemented an education policy, or invested in an education company
  • MBA preferred

We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. To that end, we seek to recruit, develop and retain the most talented people from a diverse candidate pool.
