Scalable Biofoundry (SBF) is part of our biotech innovation arm – a subsidiary focused on pilot scale process development and manufacturing activities that services both Perfect Day and external clients. We are currently seeking a Business Development Manager, SBF to join our team. As part of the commercial team, the Business Development Manager, SBF will sell contract fermentation development and manufacturing services to pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, biotherapeutics, biologics, biotechnology, cosmetic, food and agricultural industries. 

YOUR CONTRIBUTION:

  • Responsible for generating new business through a high level of customer and prospect contact including frequent direct customer visits and extensive networking.
  • Works along with the Director, SBF to establish strategies, build customer relationships, and support with P&L management, budget planning, business roadmap development, and other administrative duties for SBF.
  • Develops relationships with clients to understand key applications and generate customer driven product requirements.
  • Achieves and exceeds sales goals and objectives by actively selling to clients in the field. Develop a working knowledge of current and potential activities that may affect revenues. Utilize pre-call planning for increased effectiveness.
  • Maintains contact with existing customers as well as develops new customers in order to achieve or exceed sales objectives.
  • Calls upon clients to develop new sales and travel according to the requirements.
  • Presents sales presentations for internal and external customers.
  • Develops proposals on prospective opportunities.
  • Assists the company with product trending and industry/market trending and may routinely gather account and client information.
  • Interfaces with quality systems and manufacturing and quality management personnel on issues related to products in the field.
  • Develop sales tools needed to support business development process and increase effectiveness.
  • Selling and promoting services garnered by building relationships with various customers and providing expertise and exceptional customer service.
  • Stays current on developments within the industry. Attend conferences, trade shows, and seminars as required.
  • Utilizes technical expertise and expanding customer relationships to identify areas of improvement and new product opportunities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Exceptional communication (both written and verbal) and presentation skills.
  • Tremendous ability to work with clients, actively listen to needs, and translate into opportunities
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and provides expert knowledge in the strategic function of sales & marketing.
  • Leads with impact & influence. Establishes credibility, effectively persuades and develops others, and achieves important objectives collaboratively.
  • Maintains transparent communication. Appropriately communicates organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, and appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life sciences, Biology, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioprocess technology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, Food Technology, Dairy Science, Dairy Technology, Nutrition, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biosciences or any closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience related to sales/business development.
  • Must have previous work experience in a Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) / Contract Research Organization (CRO), Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) or with the development, manufacturing or of sterile biotechnology products.
  • Ability to build key customer relationships with the ability to educate and demonstrate technical value propositions.
  • High aptitude to learn technical and scientific information.
  • Command of innovation and commercialization processes. 
  • Detail oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, within prescribed guidelines, or as a team member.
  • Must be familiar with Microsoft Office applications.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • A valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required.
