As part of this mission, Chewy Health is hiring an Associate Director, Strategy and Business Development (Practice Hub) in Dania Beach, Florida or Bellevue, WA to help define and shape the next generation of services we will offer our veterinarian partners.  The Associate Director, Strategy and Business Development will own defining our 3 year vision & plan for B2B services, defining potential commercial models and associated business cases, and developing a roadmap and plan to implement the vision.  Additionally, this leader will work closely with Chewy Health leadership to spearhead strategy, outreach, development and implementation of partnerships and (potentially) acquisitions related to our B2B portfolio. 

This role is extremely broad, requiring a diverse skill set including business strategy, business case development, technology and product development, and effective communication and collaboration, and will be instrumental in helping Chewy achieve the next wave of growth by identifying how we can more deeply partner with veterinarians and the partner ecosystem that supports them.   Finally, while the near term focus is strategy and service development, the expectation is that this leader will be dynamic and able to quickly transition to an GM or similar role based on the 3 year plan 

What You'll Do:

  • Build and maintain a fact base of research into emerging market trends, technologies, and future state of consumer health care, veterinary care and pet health
  • Identify and sizing key unmet needs in the marketplace where Chewy can provide a meaningfully differentiated solution, then build the strategies and business cases for where & how Chewy can play
  • Identify the capabilities required to support the strategy and develop an implementation roadmap that builds towards it in an iterative fashion;  Translate that roadmap into financial and operating plans that can inform investment decisions
  • Leverage strategy to inform partnerships, ventures, investments, and other opportunities, driving coordination with the Chewy Health business & finance teams
  • Work closely with Chewy Health leadership and other senior leaders across Chewy to get buy in for our plans;  Drive investment reviews with senior leadership to secure funding and resourcing

What You'll Need:

  • 8+ years of experience in  a strategy consulting firm, an in-house strategic Initiatives function, or similar tenure in a new product/service development role in a technology services/SAAS, eCommerce marketplace or related industries (B2B or B2C)
  • Exceptional business and financial acumen with ability to ask the right questions to drive clarity around the opportunities
  • Be a strong strategic thinker who can balance bold ideas and thinking big with simple solutions and pragmatic execution.
  • Have a proven track-record in the design, development, and delivery of strategic commercial programs in a fast-paced environment
  • Have extraordinary analytical, critical thinking and strategic problem-solving skills, with the ability to cut through complexity and turn high-level business requirements and opportunities into specific projects
  • Financial literacy (familiarity with P&Ls, discounted cashflow models, etc.) with the ability to direct financial and data modelers, including performing model quality control and triangulation of modeling assumptions;
  • Strong influence and written & verbal communication skills, with the ability to to communicate complex subjects in a cogent manner to stakeholders and partners, defend and gain buy-in for new ideas, and  effectively challenge the thinking of others
  • Experience developing, negotiating and implementing strategic partnerships
  • Strong program management skills to drive multiple workstreams across a diverse set of stakeholders
  • A bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent experience. MBA preferred  
  • Position requires some travel (10%-25%)

Bonus:

  • Experience with launching new technology products/services to veterinary clinics OR medical practices
  • Strong understanding of the overall pet care industry and/or recent trends in technology and services (consumer and enterprise) for human and pet healthcare 
  • In depth experience and understanding of the veterinary profession in the US;
  • Experience in biotech, medtech, or healthcare consulting
