Position Overview:

Brown Advisory is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious individual to join the Investment Solutions Group as a Research Analyst. This role is integral to the firm’s investment and portfolio management efforts. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for investing, analytical rigor, and a drive for continuous learning. The role requires the ability to solve complex problems, often under tight deadlines, and collaborate across teams at the firm.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Manager Sourcing & Diligence: Source prospective fund investments, including hedge funds and other alternatives, through screens, conferences, networking with industry professionals, and other channels.

  • Manager Diligence: Conduct quantitative and qualitative investment diligence by evaluating track records, investment philosophies & processes, portfolio fit, investment risks, and more.

  • Investment Monitoring:

    • Ongoing coverage of existing investments which includes the production of detailed quarterly update reports.

    • Maintain relationships with existing investments through ongoing communication with IR and investment professionals.

    • Maintain a comprehensive database that includes performance metrics, portfolio exposures, liquidity terms, marketing materials, fund documents, etc.

  • Internal Communication: Effectively communicate important updates and investment insights to stakeholders across the firm.

  • Market Research: Conduct peer group analysis and asset-class diligence to support fund evaluation and idea generation.

  • Client Engagement: Assist in designing custom portfolios, preparing client-facing materials, and communicating investment views.

  • Ad Hoc Projects: Create custom analysis, manager comparisons, and other research tasks.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, economics, or finance

  • Minimum 3 years' experience, 5-10 years of experience preferred ideally within a family office, endowment or similar organization

  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and strong proficiency with Bloomberg

  • Knowledge of financial markets and major asset classes (e.g., equities, fixed income, hedge funds, alternatives, etc.)

  • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities

  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Intellectual honesty, desire for continuous learning, high integrity, strong work ethic

  • Highly collaborative with a desire to work in a team-oriented environment

  • Ability to work in our New York office five days a week

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization (e.g., H-1B , O-1, F-1 (OPT), TN, or any other non-immigrant visa classifications that require employer support or sponsorship).

Salary: $120-$185k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long term incentive eligibility, which are applicable for this role.
