General Description: 
We are seeking a physicist with expertise in atomic physics.  At HRL you will be part of team making the next generation of timing, sensing, and quantum networking devices.  You will apply your education and experience (while continually expanding your breadth of expertise) to design, build, and test beyond state-of-the-art technologies.  

Essential Duties: 
Specific tasks include the design, simulation, calculations, and construction of AMO experiments and prototypes, data collection and analysis, and presentation of the results to team members.
Additional job functions include writing invention disclosures, writing proposals, publishing papers, attending and presenting at conferences, and briefing internal and external customers. 

Required Skills: 
Research experience in one or more of the following areas: atomic physics, atomic clocks, chip-scale atomic/photonic devices, quantum optics, nonlinear optics, cavity optomechanics, semiconductor device physics, device design, and RF engineering.
Experience developing innovative solutions based upon the application of relevant research results from a wide variety of sources. 
Experience with multi-physics simulation (both device and optical system), computer-aided design, layout, and testing. 
A proven track record of problem solving in more than one of the following: free space optics, integrated photonics, fiber optics, microwave systems engineering, custom electronics design, vacuum equipment and hardware, cryogenic equipment. 
A record of publications in top-tier, peer-reviewed journals.
Strong communication skills (verbal and written), active participation in R&D team activities

Required Education: 
Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, EE or related fields

Physical Requirements: 
Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment. Willing to travel occasionally.

Special Requirements:
US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $132,765 - $165,983 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
