The Quality Engineer is responsible for preventing defects, driving root-cause investigations, strengthening Titan’s quality management system, and improving process capability across PCB assembly and electromechanical build operations. This role works directly with Production Engineering, Operations, and the Quality Supervisor to eliminate recurring issues, tighten documentation, and ensure products meet all internal, customer, and AS9100 requirements.
Titan expects this role to be data-driven, floor-focused, and uncompromising in enforcing quality discipline. The Quality Engineer owns the analysis behind escapes, the rigor behind corrective actions, and the standards that prevent rework and customer issues.
Key ResponsibilitiesRoot Cause, Corrective Action & Defect Prevention-
Lead 5-Why, Fishbone, and 8D analyses for internal and external defects.
-
Drive corrective actions through full lifecycle: containment - root cause - fix - verification - sustainment.
-
Eliminate chronic issues in SMT, AOI, reflow, selective solder, hand solder, mechanical assembly, and wiring.
-
Partner with Process Engineering to validate improvements and confirm sustained defect reduction.
-
Maintain and improve procedures, forms, records, and controlled documents for AS9100/ISO9001.
-
Support internal audits and prepare documentation for external and customer audits.
-
Ensure calibration, traceability, and traveler documentation remain controlled and accurate.
-
Maintain supplier quality documentation and support supplier CARs when needed.
-
Own internal quality metrics: FPY, escapes, rework trends, defect Pareto, SPC data, and audit results.
-
Provide weekly, monthly, and quarterly quality analysis to leadership—fact-based, no fluff.
-
Identify top defect drivers and work cross-functionally to prevent recurrence.
-
Support inspection teams with defect classification, workmanship interpretation, and disposition decisions.
-
Validate AOI programming logic and work with engineers to reduce false calls and misses.
-
Ensure proper acceptance criteria per IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and Titan/customer-specific requirements.
-
Review all NPI packages for clarity, accuracy, and proper quality controls before release.
-
Verify BOM accuracy, AVL compliance, drawings, torque specs, functional test steps, inspection steps, and documentation completeness.
-
Support First Article builds and ensure issues are correctly captured and resolved.
-
Support customer returns (RMA) with timely root-cause analysis and clear, professional documentation.
-
Participate in customer visits, audits, and quality reviews as required.
QualificationsRequired Experience
-
3+ years quality engineering experience in PCB assembly, electronics manufacturing, or electromechanical systems.
-
Strong understanding of IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, soldering/assembly workmanship criteria, and defect classification.
-
Experience leading 8D, 5-Why, and root-cause investigations.
-
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, BOMs, and inspection documents.
-
Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001 quality systems.
-
Solid data analysis capability—SPC, Pareto, capability studies, trend analysis.
-
AOI/X-ray programming or deep inspection background.
-
PCB or high-mix electronics manufacturing experience.
-
Experience with mechanical/hardware inspections, torque verification, or functional test processes.
-
Supplier quality or external customer-facing quality experience.
-
ERP experience (Cetec preferred).
-
Analytical & Structured: Breaks problems down with logic and data—not opinions.
-
Detail Obsessed: Catches small issues before they become escapes.
-
Process Disciplined: Enforces documentation accuracy and quality controls without exception.
-
Direct & Clear Communicator: Provides factual assessments and clear expectations.
-
Urgency: Moves fast when defects risk customer impact or production downtime.
-
Calm Under Pressure: Maintains clarity even during audit or escape situations.
-
Ownership Mindset: Treats quality failures personally and drives closure aggressively.
-
Floor Presence: Works where the issues occur—not from a desk.
-
Frequent on-floor presence in SMT, soldering, inspection, and mechanical assembly areas.
-
Ability to use microscopes, metrology tools, torque testers, and inspection equipment.
-
Stand/walk for extended periods; lift up to ~25 lbs occasionally.
-
Work in ESD-controlled environments.
