Job Title: Technical Program Manager - Artificial Intelligence (AI)

How will you make an impact?

As the Technical Program Manager for the AI Engineering Team, you will be strategically guiding a highly visible AI Engineering team in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for strategic thinking and definition for AI across all Thermo Fisher R&D scientific divisions. You will also be responsible for oversight and management of execution, communicating upwards to leadership, and owning all interdependencies. Your goal is to craft a program that supports the team's work in both algorithm development and MLOps support. You will develop a program that supports increasing project volume and decreasing time to algorithm delivery.

What will you do?

  • Manage Portfolio: Maintain and coordinate the AI Project Portfolio. Coordinate multiple AI projects to ensure they are aligned with the overall mission and strategic goals of the AI Engineering Team. Develop evaluation criteria for project acceptance into AI program.
  • Define Strategy: Define program roadmap and KPIs for the team's portfolio of AI algorithm and MLOps projects.
  • Ensure Results: Monitor and report on progress of projects against quarterly and long-term goals of the team. Manage program risks and help drive delivery of projects through project managers. Proactively report to stakeholders and executive sponsors about progress and any necessary modifications of plans.
  • Facilitate collaboration: Help organize AI community of practice that focuses on R&D specific needs. Organize internal conferences, workshops, and trainings to educate colleagues about AI activities happening across the company.
  • Create a Budget and Operating Plan: Determine how to effectively allocate money and resources to develop multiple AI/ML projects within time and budget. Ensure that AI vendor engagements and assessments will benefit multiple projects.
  • Identify Best Practices: Research and identify best practices for managing AI/ML programs. Continuously refine processes to codify lessons learned.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or related field is required.
  • CPM or PMP Certification Preferred: Seasoned Project Manager with familiarity with latest tools, techniques, and methodologies to drive consistency across programs

Experience:

  • 5+ years of work experience in software development and project management
  • Experience leading team of technical subject matter experts, including software engineers and scientists

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Experience with or ability to create KPI's and other performance metrics around data science, artificial intelligence, and/or machine learning projects
  • Experience with budgeting across multiple efforts
  • Understanding of fundamental program management principles and methodologies
  • Conflict resolution experience and capabilities with excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to influence
  • Outstanding leadership skills with a proven record of successfully leading multi-faceted cross-functional teams
  • Analytical, detail-oriented with strong Microsoft Office skills and proven ability to communicate
  • Ability to influence others and partner cross-functionally
  • Background in software development in a commercial environment
  • Excellent grasp of software practices and agile development environments
