About the Technical Program Management Team

The Technical Program Management (TPM) Team at Varo is a group of software development life cycle experts, with a focus on agile practices, dedicated to bringing organization, transparency, and enablement to our software delivery teams. We primarily work alongside Engineering, Product, Data, and Design and work to enable teams’ ability to succeed in predictable, measured ways. We build strong partnerships across the organization and act as cross-functional leaders for Varo’s most complex endeavors. We foster servant leadership and depend on influencing teams and individuals without direct authority. We are a critical part of Varo’s ability to deliver timely corporate and customer solutions.

About the Technical Program Manager Role

We’re looking for a strong Staff Technical Program Manager (TPM) with hands-on agile program management experience and a track record showcasing the consistent ability to successfully drive end-to-end delivery of strategic programs that are critical to enabling rapid growth. Varo is growing fast and this is a fantastic time to contribute and influence the scaling of the organization’s software delivery processes. You’ll need to be a strong communicator, an influencer, an advisor, and a builder at heart. Being central to multiple technical and business organizations, the TPM role requires a high level of emotional intelligence, superior communication skills, and the ability to manage change, while motivating disparate teams to achieve common objectives and goals. Strong program management capabilities are essential and knowledge of banking or related financial services products will propel your success in this role.

As a Staff Technical Program Manager you'll...

  • Own and drive the execution of 1-2 large-scale, complex, cross-functional programs with clear executive exposure and the need to deliver transparently
  • Work with Product, Design, Data, and Engineering teams to identify scope, remove constraints, manage dependencies and risks; coordinate staffing, ensure clear prioritization, and facilitate the trade-off discussions needed to be successful both in the short-term and the long-term
  • Evangelize Agile practices and deliver transformation programs in a fast-paced environment, articulating program vision to varying audiences
  • Lead end-to-end program execution and coordinate and delegate work across cross-functional, distributed teams - supporting inception, development, testing and through to production release
  • Identify and proactively manage program risk, and collaborate with other team leaders to mitigate risks across the program portfolio
  • Drive high level collaboration and coordination with various business functions to facilitate the planning process, setting goals & milestones, and creation of comprehensive timelines taking into account available resources, dependencies, priorities and other constraints
  • Track progress and key dates, holding folks accountable along the way, in order to prepare and deliver reports on program progress and risk
  • Excellent presentation skills; with the demonstrated ability to present to all levels of leadership, including executives
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Varo systems in an effort to identify unnecessary complexity or unmet dependencies
  • Drive engineering metrics like uptime to gauge OKR progress and conformity to agreed SLAs
  • Apply the nuances of influencing based on the situation, knowing when to push and when to ease, driving through designs, ideas, data and roadmaps.
  • Demonstrate your ability to simultaneously understand and communicate the bigger picture while diving in deep to understand underlying issues & risks
  • Lead and inspire delivery teams while creating cross-functional alignment and accountability, setting up the foundation for further process improvements to support scale

You have the following required experience...

  • 6-12 years of Program Management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely-related technical field
  • Effective use of Jira to manage teams’ workloads and to create supporting artifacts such as plans, reports, and dashboards
  • Solid experience driving and releasing changes impacting internal processes, products, and customers
  • Enthusiasm to drive large-scale transformations in a high growth company
  • An independent, self-starter mentality, a diplomatic negotiator, and an overall team player with a collaborative approach
  • Confident and articulate communicator
  • Familiarity of working in tightly regulated environments
  • Ability to adapt and operate under ambiguity and rapid change
  • Excellent ability to influence without authority across engineering, business, and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent presentation skills with a demonstrated ability to present to all levels of leadership, including executives
  • Strong technical, analytical and quantitative skills utilizing data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations and drive decisions
  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to assess any situation with keen business sense and professional maturity
