Sr Technical Program Manager - HBO Max

The Job

The Technical Program Manager (TPM) role is a critical component in the launch and management of cutting-edge consumer and B2B technologies in the Digital Products group for HBO Max. The primary function of the TPM is owning proprietary and customer off the shelf technology to support WarnerMedia's consumer facing TVE/OTT streaming apps.

As part of the technology organization the TPM owns proprietary technology such as Paseo middleware. The TPM facilitates communication with internal business units, affiliates and channel partners to ensure we are developing the necessary product features to meet market demand. The TPM works closely with distribution, product, marketing, program management and engineering teams to implement enhancements and other changes across our digital properties.

The TPM manages deliverables internal resources as well as those to satisfied customer and partner needs. The TPM oversees and coordinates requirements for gathering, development and defect identification, and associated regression and re-testing efforts.

The Daily
  • Guides several core areas of the technology organization: middleware core product development, affiliate integrations and other consumer technology focused initiatives.
  • Customer facing role, with strong communication skills; ability to negotiate in a high-pressure environment; engages with Affiliate project and technology teams as needed.
  • As Product Owner (PO), member of Agile Scrum teams, drives and owns the product requirements process across multiple related product lines while working collaboratively with key stakeholders to prioritize and validate technology, features, product direction and strategy;
  • Coordinates requirements gathering, development, and testing activities to ensure schedules are met and resources allocated accordingly
  • Communicates all key project plans, schedules, and scope changes to stakeholders
  • Performs risk management, develops work breakdown structures and manages project timelines, and milestones.
  • Ensures that project costs are managed appropriately and assigned budgets are maintained
  • Guide HBO Max teams, customers and partners in understanding overall technology product strategy as it applies to multiple product lines.
  • Creates and executes end-to-end product strategies and lifecycles for multiple related product lines, and clearly communicates to stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Manages vendor resources responsible for various activities in the product development life cycle.
  • Actively participate in architecture and design discussions with engineering teams across the entire company to help influence design and stability across the system.
  • Defines, measures and tracks product related goals and metrics using a data driven approach with emphasis on evidence based decision making
  • Develops product portfolio strategy and roadmap in concert with product management, engineering, marketing, sales, design and other internal teams and stakeholders
  • Acts as the product expert and resource within the organization for assigned product lines
  • Manages and delivers software product development centric activities, highly focused on affiliate integrations; tracks and communicates project deadlines and progress; drives schedules from conception to release to ensure that milestones are reached according to established timelines
  • Assists with the prioritization of bugs or enhancements and communicates related information to the development teams
  • Develops effective methods of communicating information across functional teams so that critical tasks are assigned and completed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Manages relationships and coordinates work between different teams

The Essentials
  • Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years progressively responsible product development and project management experience
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Advanced knowledge of Agile software development; product, program and portfolio management, program rights management,
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Ability to build consensus and work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities to ensure that deadlines are met
  • Ability to use advanced features of department/ organization specific software
  • Exceptional organizational skills, able to manage multiple work streams effectively.
  • Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals
  • Demonstrated success leading development teams and ensuring release plans are delivered on time and on budget.

The Nice to Haves
  • Master's degree in engineering management or related field
  • Preference toward technology, and particularly product development certifications (e.g. have Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications)
  • Preferable Portuguese speaking ability
