We are seeking a senior technical program manager to join our strong TPM team with ownership of key Infrastructure Security, Secure Development, Data Protection, and Privacy efforts. TPMs work closely with the CISO's EngSec team, Infrastructure team, Data Platform team and legal teams. You will drive a world-class privacy and data protection program, leading the strategy and execution of multiple business-critical security and privacy initiatives. TPMs are responsible for their problem space, work closely with engineering/product leads to conceptualize solutions, organize/align multiple engineering teams for delivery and drive execution using goals/important metrics. TPM's look for ways to standardize, ensure execution is efficient and consistent, and set accountability by supervising progress, resolving dependencies, identifying issues, evaluating risks, and communicating status to upper management and project.
The role:
• Drive the adoption of security frameworks and standard methodologies at every layer of the stack• Continuously improve and mature Uber's infrastructure security, secure development, data protection, and privacy capabilities• Streamline process and communication between the security and engineering organizations• Advise on control requirements, identify gaps, and drive remediation efforts by partnering with control owners and engineers on design and implementation• Organize and improve processes to better support a reliable control environment.• Map critical priorities to dependencies and align multi-functional roadmaps. Help lead the multi-functional planning and tech planning process, leading conversations with key partners to develop those into detailed program/project plans (including roadmaps, funding planning, resource planning, and hiring goals).• Foster innovative solutions to security, engineering, and infrastructure challenges. Understand technical implementation at the architecture level and propose technical alternatives when necessary. Ask questions that clarify priorities and push the team to be highly effective. Develop broad domain and technical knowledge. Earn the respect of premier engineers and serve as their collaborative partner.• Program manage complex and large-scale cross-team, multi-functional initiatives. Work with engineering managers and engineers to estimate work efforts, define targets and manage resources. Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks, remove obstacles and communicate status to leadership and project teammates. Engage and energize the project teams to achieve aggressive goals.
You are:
A program builder and owner who immerses themselves in all aspects of security with a particular passion for foundational security, privacy, and data protection. Looking for an opportunity that will try your technical skills and challenge your creativity. Bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementations and are ready to face a wide range of security questions and challenge the status quo when you see things that can be done better. An authority in the security and privacy domain and push innovative ideas that solve technical and organizational challenges at a global scale. Have knowledge of open source technologies and tools that can be used to support controls in Uber's microservice architecture. Have a strong understanding of DevOps and infrastructure automation techniques, tools, and technologies.
Minimum Qualifications
• At least 2+ years of Technical Program Management experience in the security domain• Domain expertise in one or more security domains spanning infrastructure security, secure development, various data protection techniques such as authentication, authorization, encryption, etc• Technical degree or equivalent software development experience and exposure to large scale infrastructure in a distributed systems environment• Solid technical capability and an ability to understand technical designs, challenges, and risks. Engineers enjoy working closely with you.• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and outstanding emotional intelligence.• Proven strong cross-team and cross-org partner management.• Analytical and truth-seeking. Understand complex concepts and make reasoned decisions objectively.• Metrics driven: Experience settling effective program goals and using them to measure program success and issues.• Strong organizational skills to balance many tasks without losing sight of the highest priority items.• Excellent in identifying process gaps, measuring progress, and balancing engineering and product efficiency with process overhead.
What The Candidate Will Do:
• Experience implementing controls to meet some of the following frameworks and standards: NIST, PSD2, PCI DSS, SOX, GDPR, SOC 2, CIS Top 20, etc.• Experience with large-scale migrations and software deployments in a constantly evolving, multi-language microservices environment• Experience developing/supporting automated approaches to operate and test controls in a microservice/DevOps environment• Background in software engineering, infrastructure/cloud engineering, and/or as an engineering manager.
