Serve as a Senior Scrum Master for 2-3 scrum teams that facilitates team self-management by upholding the principles of Scrum and creating an environment of collaboration, visibility and trust. Help the self-organizing, self-managing team meet its goals and commitments, and continuously improve performance. Ensure team success through the elimination of impediments and empowering Agile-Scrum team to resolve.
About the team:
This role supports Northwestern Mutual Planning Experience (PX) platform teams. PX is our proprietary, award-winning platform that delivers personalized, dynamic and comprehensive plans to showcase our conviction for planning with insurance and investment solutions. PX is the centerpiece of our end-to-end client experience.
About the role:

  • Embody servant leadership and partner with the engineering team and the Product Owner (PO) to drive the delivery of working software and technology platforms.
  • Ensure clarity between all team members and partners on the state of the backlog, team performance, delivery, and work plans
  • Find opportunities for experimentation and growth for continuous improvement, both personally and as a member of a team.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner to ensure backlog is prioritized in a fashion that minimizes delays and handles dependencies as well as product release plans
  • Actively contribute and guide the refinement of work in the backlog by analyzing requirements and acceptance criteria
  • Demonstrate understanding of Agile standard processes (concepts like 'Definition of Ready' and 'Definition of Done') and the ability to teach them to others
  • Identify and help resolve risks and impediments
  • Work to recognize and facilitate resolution of dependencies between engineering teams, both internal and external
  • Craft and maintain work progress updates, including Jira and Jira Align data
  • Supervise results and ensure visibility of status and artifacts
  • Provide information to Management on patterns and trends in the industry, competitors, etc.


What we're looking for:

  • A minimum of 6 years of previous professional experience as a scrum master or similar role, preferably in technology
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience supporting teams with demonstrated knowledge of solution delivery processes and standard methodologies.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master.
  • Demonstrable understanding of Scrum, Agile and Lean practices, encouraging XP inspired technical practices, and fostering collaboration vital to help identify and eliminate impediments.
  • Previous experience leading agile teams
  • Ability to teach agile principles & values and scrum framework to team members - ensuring alignment of understanding amongst the team.

Pay Range - Start:
$93,030.00
Pay Range - End:
$172,770.00

At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
